Join a supportive Advanced Practice Team in a role supporting the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center. This practice specializes in the care of patients with multiple myeloma as well as patients requiring specific procedures in our procedure clinic. These teams have a demonstrated history of providing exquisite, evidence-based patient care. This is a fantastic opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to work in this invigorating and collaborative environment.

This APP will deliver direct care to outpatients with two days of the work week dedicated to working directly with the multiple myeloma team and two days dedicated to working in the procedure clinic. With an interdisciplinary team approach, this provider will promote a collaborative relationship between providers, professional nurses, and administrative staff, to ensure continuity of patient care in the management of their disease and related issues as well as to develop expertise in the field.

Within this role, the advanced practice provider will be responsible for a panel of patients.
<br>

Other responsibilities include:<br>
<ul><li>Caring for patients throughout their continuum of care and fostering collaboration with other providers within the hospital and clinics to facilitate patient care.
</li><li>The APP develops, implements, and evaluates a plan of specialized health care for this oncology patient population throughout the care continuum.
</li><li>Promotes a professional and collaborative relationship and effort between the advanced practice team, medical staff, professional nursing staff, and administrative staff.
</li><li>Strives to provide and to ensure continuity of care for patients, while being efficient in use of resources.
</li><li>Is willing to obtain procedural proficiency for oncologic specific procedures including bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, Ommaya reservoir taps, and skin biopsies, amongst others. Training will be provided.</li><li>Indications and interpretation of radiology, pathology, and laboratory results.</li><li>Understands the complex medical environments of cancer patients including, but not limited to, those with advanced malignancy or organ dysfunction.</li><li>Serves as a role model for professional advance practice and participates in the professional development of the team through teaching, committee involvement or quality and safety initiatives to name a few.
</li><li>In addition to clinical skills, this person should possess strong leadership and communication skills and be able to work effectively with other members of the team.

Ideal Candidate:<br>

The hematology oncology PA will provide thorough, compassionate, culturally sensitive clinical care and should demonstrate operational flexibility and strong leadership, problem-solving and communication skills in order to work effectively with other members of the team.</p><ul><li>Performs comprehensive histories and physical examinations.</li><li>Completes high quality and timely documentation.</li><li>Participates in scheduled encounters, maintains capacity for urgent care for the evaluation and management of complex oncologic symptoms or treatment toxicities and improves access for newly diagnosed hematology oncology patients.</li><li>Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.</li><li>Ensues appropriate diagnostic procedures occur in a timely manner through careful coordination with other services such as radiology, facilitating various clinic appointments, communicating with patients regarding test results, and providing coverage for the team</li><li>Performs (oversees/assures completion of) specialized procedures particular to the select medical oncology population mutually agreed upon with the supervising physician.</li><li>Follows and manages patients (in collaboration with MD) enhancing continuity of care across the trajectory of illness.</li><li>Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings across the trajectory of illness.</li><li>Facilitates patient movement through the system and efficient use of resources through interdepartmental collaboration.</li><li>Facilitates and co-manages communications between physicians, patients, family, and staff.</li><li>Orders medications and writes prescriptions, inclusive of standard of care antineoplastics and oncologic investigational new drugs according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.</li><li>Participates in research efforts to advance knowledge and to promote research-based practice.</li><li>Appreciates the complex medical environments of cancer patients including, but not limited to, those with advanced malignancy or organ dysfunction and the risk for complex drug interactions.</li><li>Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current health care practice/research. The Medical-Surgical ICU (MSICU) at Brigham and Women's Hospital is a pioneering 10-bed unit and the first Physician Assistant-run ICU in our hospital. Our PAs practice at the highest level of their license, providing comprehensive critical care to a diverse mix of medical and surgical patients in a dynamic, high-acuity environment.<br>

As a Patient Care Technician in our Critical Care department, you will be a key member of the healthcare team at BMC. Under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, our Patient Care Technicians provide direct clinical and support services. Using our patient-centered care model and uplifted by a supportive nursing organization, you will participate in the delivery of care to our patients and their families. You will also work cooperatively with all healthcare team members to provide a variety of support services to meet patient, family, and staff needs.</p><p></p><p><b>
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:</b></p><ul>
<li><p>
Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the Critical Care department and their families.</p></li>
<li><p>
Clinical services could include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.</p></li>
<li><p>
Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the Critical Care dept.</p></li>
<li><p>
Contribute to the efficient operation of the Critical Care dept, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.
</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>JOB REQUIREMENTS</b>:</p><ul>
<li><p>
A high school diploma or GED certificate</p></li>
<li><p>
Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)</p></li>
<li><p>
Ability to pass clinical competency testing</p></li>
<li><p>
Physical ability to meet job responsibilities</p></li>
<li><p>
Basic math and computer proficiency</p></li>
<li>
<p>One of the following:</p>
<p>
One year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting</p>
<p>
Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation</p>
<p>
Completed an approved Patient Care Technician training</p>
<p>
Completed an approved certified medical assistant training</p>
<p>
One year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only)</p>

<li><p>Fluency in another language a plus</p></li>
<li><p>
Previous medical/surgical experience preferred</p></li>

$23.19- $27.17<p>
