The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine &amp; Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) 1 with the Immunology Team at the University of Washington Medical Center &ndash; Montlake.
CLT 1s are the critical first line in the Immunology lab. They accession and process all the specimens, answer phone calls, keep track of pending monitors, and review orders in the Laboratory Information System and Electronic Health Record.

</li></ul>What you&rsquo;ll contribute:
<ul><li>Understand, calibrate, operate, troubleshoot and perform routine and emergency maintenance of laboratory instruments listed below and related equipment, as appropriate: pH meter, balances, centrifuges, pipette,
</li><li>Make and organize reagents.Label reagents according to protocol.
</li><li>Maintain chemical inventory and SDS records. Prepare containers for chemical waste, monitor the waste volume, and arrange for disposal.
</li><li>Is responsible for ordering of supplies, renewing standing orders and service contracts, and monitoring of non-reagent supply inventory. Receives and stores supplies as they arrive.Tracks down overdue shipments. Communicate with inventory techs about the status of orders.
</li><li>Monitor freezer and refrigerator temperatures.Maintain freezers, refrigerators, waterbaths, and incubators as needed.
</li><li>Monitor compressed gas cylinders, replacing as needed.
</li><li>Prepare and process samples for transport and/or testing.
</li><li>Exhibits working knowledge of laboratory computer systems including, but not limited to the laboratory information system (LIS), PurchasePath, MediaLab, Excel, and Word.
</li><li>Perform work accurately, precisely and meet completion deadlines through efficient workload organization.Work independently and handle heavy workloads calmly and efficiently.
</li><li>Locate missing samples, resolve ordering problems/questions, credit testing as instructed.Locate samples needed by other sections or for research testing.
</li><li>Helps maintain sample storage.
</li><li>Answers the telephone and retrieving recording telephone messages.Respond to inquiries concerning patient lab values, reference ranges, specimen requirements, procedures, time required for tests.
</li><li>Create, maintain, and organize records that are thorough, accurate and legible.
</li><li>Support the Prenatal Risk Screening program by contacting sending locations for missing information, reminders, test cancelations, notification of abnormal results and organizing paperwork.
</li><li>Login proficiency testing samples and store them after testing is completed.
</li><li>Store, archive and retrieve laboratory records.Prepare working notebooks for assays and QC records.
</li><li>May perform phlebotomy.
</li><li>Member of the division Safety Team and supports the work of the division Safety Representative.
</li><li>Perform data processing and clerical tasks as required.
</li><li>Perform the work of a clinical Laboratory Assistant.

</li></ul>PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
<ul><li>Performs routine and stat laboratory tests utilizing automated or semi-automated equipment, kit assays, and microscopic evaluations. This includes the ability to understand, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot (may involve working with manufacturer&rsquo;s customer service personnel) the applicable equipment and testing methods.
</li><li>Performs work accurately and precisely and can organize the workload to meet service demands, calmly, efficiently, and without direct supervision.
</li><li>Performs quality control analyses on all tests assigned and determines whether all parameters are within established ranges.
</li><li>Participates in training and demonstrating routine laboratory techniques to new employees in coordination with the CLT Lead.
</li><li>May send out letters to patients, as delegated by clinic leadership, with lab results or overdue reminder letters for appointments.
</li></ul>REQUIREMENTS for CLT1:
<ul><li>Able to be certified as a Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist with the Washington State Department of Health within 90 days of hire.

The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine &amp; Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for an Anatomic Pathology (AP) Technologist with the Histology Team at the University of Washington Medical Center &ndash; Montlake.
Join a highly skilled patient-centered Histology Team where your work plays a direct and critical role in diagnosing disease and guiding life-changing treatment decisions. As an Anatomic Pathology Technologist, you will prepare high-quality tissue slides that support accurate pathology interpretation, ensuring timely results for patients and providers. Our lab is known for its collaborative culture and commitment to excellence.

</li></ul>What you&rsquo;ll contribute:
<ul><li>Under general direction, perform routine and complex procedures for Histology and IHC lab to include processing, embedding, microtomy, H&amp;E staining for special staining of all types of tissue specimen received in the Histology laboratory, muscle preparation, IHC and nerve teasing. Guide and instruct AP technician and Laboratory assistant.
</li><li>Monitor and perform quality control of specimens; verify that the staining shows adequate cellular distinction; assure accurate specimen labeling; and distribute to the pathologist responsible for reviewing the case.
</li><li>Determine disposition of improperly handled specimens; identify problems, notify supervisor, and monitor follow-up solutions.
</li><li>Train new employees in pathology procedures, preparation of reagents, and in the proper use and theory of laboratory instrumentation.
</li><li>Complete all instrument function verification, changing/rotating solutions, maintenance, and documents in accordance with lab procedures. Ensure that equipment defects and malfunctions are reported and repaired.
</li><li>Assess the impact of new procedures in the laboratory; evaluate the requirements to comply with CAP (College of American Pathologists) standards.
</li><li>Maintain a safe working environment by following all safety regulations.
</li><li>Participate and comply with CAP regulatory compliance.
</li><li>Maintain a neat, clean, and orderly work area. Responsible for the cleaning of his/her microtome, filing his/her blocks and cleaning any soiled glassware at the end of the shift.
</li><li>Able to work independently and with other team members.
</li><li>Monitor and assess the integrity of materials received in histology laboratory such as formalin fixed and fresh tissue, serum and other blood products to ensure that proper and correct testing and results are achieved. Implement and monitor procedures pertaining to handling and disposition of specimens, identify problems and take corrective actions, notify supervisor and follow through on resolutions.
</li><li>Perform high complexity testing, reagent preparation, titration and dilution applicable to testing associated with pathology services relating to general histology, Immunohistochemistry, Immunofluorescence, molecular studies, electron microscopy and autopsy and death services. Demonstrate ability and knowledge to recommend testing panels, formulate new procedures, validate new assay, work-up new antibodies to aid pathologists in diagnosing cases. Review and perform adequacy assessment of daily quality standards and quality assurance outputs applicable to testing results.
</li><li>Assess and formulate new procedures, job aides, update current SOPS and evaluate requirements to comply with College of American Pathologists (CAP) standards. Train new and current employees in pathology procedures and use of laboratory equipment. Monitor and evaluate equipment functionality and usage. Assign bench duties and create work schedules for anatomic pathology technician, trainees, lab helpers and students to ensure that workload TAT are met. Collect and record statistics, case volumes and metrics to demonstrate laboratory values.

<ul><li>A bachelor&rsquo;s degree with coursework in chemistry, biology and other biological sciences, including microscopy AND
</li><li>Certification, or certified within two (2) years of date of hire, at the Technologist (MT, HTL, MLS) level by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Scientists or the Microscopy Society of America AND
</li><li>One (1) year of clinical anatomic laboratory experience
</li><li>OR equivalent education/experience.
