The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse registered in Massachusetts who is responsible and accountable for planning and providing patient care for assigned patients in accordance with Nursing Standards of Care as set forth in the Nursing Department's Clinical Practice Manual. JOB SUMMARY<br>
Working in collaboration with Neuro-intensivists, critical care Fellows, and Residents, the Neurocritical Care Nurse Practitioner provides high quality patient care to for neurology and neurosurgery patients in the in the Brigham and Women&rsquo;s Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit.
<br>
<br>
The Neurocritical Care NP is a member of the multidisciplinary provider team with patient care and management responsibilities similar to those of the interns and junior residents who have month-long rotations in the Neuroscience ICU.<br>
<br>
PRINCIPAL DUTIES<br>
1. Elicits a detailed and accurate history, performs an appropriate physical examination, records and presents the pertinent data to the neurocritical care team.<br>
2. Attends, presents and actively participates in daily ICU rounds.<br>
3. Assists with procedures and pre- and postoperative care.<br>
4. Performs and/or prescribes routine laboratory and related studies, medications, and consultations as appropriate and standard for the Neuroscience ICU Service.<br>
5. Enters and signs admission, transfer, discharge, and preoperative orders into Order Entry.<br>
6. Assists in facilitating patient movement/flow through the hospital, particularly as it relates to the admission and discharge process.<br>
7. Serves as a mentor to APP staff in training, residents in training, students, and house staff, educating others while continuing to learn and expand one&rsquo;s own knowledge base.<br>
8. Continues to provide the highest standard of patient care, while incorporating measures that improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness within the department and hospital.<br>
9. Participates in quality improvement initiatives.<br>
10. Participates with research projects (generation by others and self-initiated projects).<br>

We are expanding our Advanced Practice Provider team in a state of the art 44 bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit in a new Heart Center here at Boston Children&rsquo;s Hospital. We are looking for diverse and motivated individuals to join our team here in Boston. When you join our team you will work with a supportive group of Advanced Practice Providers, Attending Physicians and Fellows. You will be responsible for taking care of Pre and Post-operative highly acute cardiac patients, along with children who have cardiac medical needs in the intensive care unit. We have an extensive Orientation Program to prepare you for taking care of these critically ill patients and to thrive here at Boston Children&rsquo;s. Providing care to infants, children, and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease.</li><li>

Collaborating with the CICU Attending physician, to conduct patient assessment, medical history, physical exams, and diagnose health and developmental problems.</li><li>
Participating in CICU medical rounds, including presentation of clinical information, plan development and continued management and modification of the plan for patients throughout the shift.</li><li>
Pre and Post-Op care of critically ill cardiac patients that involves management of ventilators, inotropic support, ECMO, CVVH, emergency situations and sedation titration.</li><li>
Procedures such as Intubation and Central lines, will be taught in both Simulation and during real-time, hands-on events.</li><li>
Extensive Orientation Program with a designated preceptor, simulation and didactic classes along with hands-on experience. Access to in-person and Zoom lectures by Heart Center experts as well as electronic recordings on OpenPediatrics.</li><li>
Participation in ongoing research and committees in the CICU.</li><li>
Offer consultation and education to all staff, patients and families.</li><li>

The oncology practices within the Division of Hematology and Oncology refer adult cancer patients to the Infusion Unit for treatment with, and management of, toxicities from chemotherapy and biotherapy. Patients are followed throughout the entire trajectory of their illness: diagnosis and treatment, rehabilitation, long-term follow-up, and when necessary, palliative care.<br>

The Oncology Infusion Unit has a strong commitment to primary nursing.<br>
RN's are responsible for patient education, medication administration, symptom management, and documentation of toxicities for those patients participating in clinical trials as well as those patients receiving standard regimens.<br>

RNs support the organizational mission and the Cancer Center investment in clinical research. In tandem with the Cancer Center Protocol Office and the Research Manager, RNs participate in the administration of all phases of clinical trials in which their primary patients may be enrolled.<br>
