WHAT A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CAREGIVER LOOKS LIKE:

<div>The Laboratory Assistant 4/Lead is responsible for advanced pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens, procurement, and preparation of specimens for testing. This role involves performing tasks and tests with minimal supervision, providing guidance to staff, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The Laboratory Assistant 4/Lead also serves as a mentor and resource for the team, providing training and technical guidance to lower-level staff while contributing to process improvements and high standards of patient care.<ul><li>
Transcribe laboratory testing orders in an efficient and accurate manner.</li><li>
Ensure specimens are properly identified, labeled, collected, and stored.</li><li>
Expert in specimen processing.</li><li>
Applies advanced knowledge of specimen collections from individuals of varying ages, diverse physical and mental disabilities, and health conditions.</li><li>
Proficient in Point of Care Testing (POCT), if applicable to site.</li><li>
Explain collection procedures and provide patient instructions to ensure the accurate collection or preparation of specimens, to facilitate patient/caregiver understanding and to reduce patient anxiety.</li><li>
Expert in patient education, handling complex orders, and ensuring compliance with quality assurance and/or safety protocols.</li><li>
Responsible for supporting adequate staff coverage, and providing leadership, guidance, and counseling to staff. Serves as a point of escalation for patient concerns or complaints.</li><li>
Maintains a safe and clean working environment.</li><li>
Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids.</li><li>
Provides all areas with administrative support, including inventory management, assisting in the development of policies or procedures, and the training of new team members and students on operational procedures. Serves as a resource for less experienced staff.</li><li>
May assist in staff development, including mentoring, coaching, and performance evaluation.</li><li>
Has the authority to fulfill supervisory responsibilities when the supervisor is unavailable.</li><li>
May assist with staffing to maintain minimum staffing levels.</li><li>
May register patients or provide courier services.</li><li>

SUMMARY: 
Performs tests related to the diagnosis and treatment of patient by utilizing various medical laboratory procedures in the Clinical Laboratory. Correlates and integrates other patient data when interpreting test results. Uses professional judgment and has an in-depth knowledge of laboratory techniques, scientific principles, quality control, and instrument maintenance.
 
HOURS: You will enjoy excellent work-life balance. This position will support your desire to work four, 10-hr shifts every two weeks or five 8-hour shifts every two-week pay period. We have flexible evening start times.
 
REQUIREMENTS: 
<ul>
<li>Bachelor's Degree Required.</li>
<li>Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or equivalent certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required or registry eligible and obtained within 1 year of hire date.</li>
<li>Completion of medical technology training required.</li>
<li>Experience in a clinical laboratory preferred.</li>
</ul>
WHAT YOU WILL DO: 
<ul>
<li>Performs, records and reviews scheduled QC. Takes immediate corrective action when QC data is outside established limits.</li>
<li>Performs and records routine maintenance of equipment. Recognizes and documents poor instrument performance and takes appropriate action independently.</li>
<li>Verifies specimen labeling, integrity and suitability before performing testing.</li>
<li>Accurately performs low, medium and high complexity testing procedures according to established protocols and regulatory requirements.</li>
<li>Reports test results accurately and appropriately. Reports critical test results to physician, nursing station or physician office according to established protocol.</li>
<li>Ability to prioritize work to maintain maximum efficiency. Uses spare time to assist other areas as needed.</li>
<li>Performs phlebotomy when needed according to laboratory policies and procedures.</li>
<li>Monitors supply inventory and takes appropriate action to ensure that needed supplies are readily available.</li>
<li>Reviews work performed by clinical laboratory assistants. Performs corrective actions if required.</li>
<li>Performs expected tasks without direction of supervisor.</li>
<li>Ensures accuracy of work being reported by assigned department. Examines review lists, pending logs and the like. Resolves problems immediately and communicates with oncoming shift, nurses/physicians as appropriate.Works independently and troubleshoots analyzers by calling tech support, etc.</li>
