As a BWH Oncology nurse you will have the chance to care for a broad-range of patients, as well as be trained to administer life-saving treatments including: Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy, Stem Cell Transplants, and CAR-T. Additionally, the BWH/DFCI Cancer Center supports many different research studies and protocols. As an Oncology staff nurse, you will be able to participate in the BWH shared governance structure to help make improvements and foster new ideas. About this Outpatient Staff Nurse job:<br>
The Staff Nurse practices at a high level of autonomy and accountability in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team to provide a continuum of patient care from prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, palliation, bereavement and survivorship. They are integral in coordinating patient care through specialized clinical centers and programs, including our partners in radiation oncology, surgery and clinical research, to develop and implement a personalized care plan for each patient aimed at achieving optimum clinical outcomes.<br>

The Staff Nurse systematically and continuously collects and assesses data related to patient health status to develop, execute, and evaluate the plan of care in the ambulatory/outpatient care setting. They provide necessary assessments, administer treatments, and communicate with the multidisciplinary care team. The Staff Nurse provides patient and family education and psychosocial and emotional support. They ensure that care is safe, holistic, efficient, effective, timely and meets the cultural, spiritual, and ethnic needs of each patient and family. While this position supports an MGBCI cost center operationally, the Staff Nurse functions within the Brigham and Women&rsquo;s Hospital Department of Nursing professional governance structure, and all nursing staff maintain reporting alignment through BWH nursing leadership.<p></p><p><b><br>
Job Summary</b></p>
The Staff Nurse will be responsible for:<br>

<ul><li>The staff nurse serves as contact with patients at home and in the ambulatory/outpatient setting to ensure optimal clinical management in collaboration with attending physicians, advanced practice providers, fellow nurses, support staff and other members of the multidisciplinary care team.
</li><li>Communicates with patients via daily telephone triage and Gateway messages.</li><li>Assists in triage of symptom management and medical urgencies/emergencies to attending physicians and advanced practice providers and guides the patient to the appropriate level of care in the appropriate time frame.</li><li>Monitors patients at home for anticipated chemotherapy/surgery/radiation-associated toxicities, and screening for unanticipated toxicities/events.</li><li>Coordinates home services including, but not limited to, visiting nursing, palliative care and hospice, home infusion, laboratory services and monitoring, etc.</li><li>Coordinates and performs blood draws and routine flushing and maintenance of central lines, including dressing changes.</li><li>Coordinates, performs, and documents injections and vaccinations per protocol.</li><li>Coordinates, performs and documents intravenous therapies within the practice and in collaboration with the Short Stay Infusion Units.</li><li>Assists attending physicians and advanced practice providers with outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including, but not limited to, bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, etc.</li><li>Educates patients and families about their disease, treatment plan, medications, and home care needs.</li><li>Provides assistance with disability forms, FMLA forms, Advanced Directives, and pre-authorizations as needed.</li><li>Assesses psychosocial needs of patients and families. The solid tumor hematology oncology NP provides comprehensive ambulatory care to one or more disease specific medical oncology patient populations. With an interdisciplinary team approach, this provider promotes a collaborative relationship between all providers, professional nurses and administrative staff, to ensure continuity of patient care and efficient use of resources. The NP is responsible for the assessment and management of solid tumor medical oncology patients, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and development and implementation of appropriate plans of care across the trajectory of illness for patients.<br>
In addition to providing direct and indirect patient care, the hematology oncology APP serves as a role model for professional advanced practice and participates in the professional development of the team through teaching, committee involvement or quality and safety initiatives. The hematology oncology APP will provide thorough, compassionate, culturally sensitive clinical care and should demonstrate operational flexibility and strong leadership, problem-solving and communication skills in order to work effectively with other members of the team.

<ul><li>Performs comprehensive histories and physical examinations.</li><li>Completes high quality and timely documentation.
</li><li>Participates in scheduled encounters, maintains capacity for urgent care for the evaluation for complex symptom evaluation and management and improves access for newly diagnosed hematology oncology patients.</li><li>Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.</li><li>Ensues appropriate diagnostic procedures occur in a timely manner through careful coordination with other services such as radiology, facilitating various clinic appointments, communicating with patients regarding test results, and providing coverage for the team</li><li>Performs (oversees/assures completion of) specialized procedures particular to the select medical oncology population mutually agreed upon with collaborating physician.</li><li>Follows and manages patients (in collaboration with MD) enhancing continuity of care across the trajectory of illness.</li><li>Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings across the trajectory of illness</li><li>Facilitates patient movement through the system and efficient use of resources through interdepartmental collaboration.</li><li>Facilitates and co-manages communications between physicians, patients, family, and staff.</li><li>Orders medications and writes prescriptions, inclusive of standard of care antineoplastics and oncologic investigational new drugs according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.</li><li>Participates in research efforts to advance knowledge and to promote research-based practice.</li><li>Appreciates the complex medical environments of cancer patients including, but not limited to, those with advanced malignancy or organ dysfunction and the risk for complex drug interactions.</li><li>Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current health care practice/research. </li><li>Minimum 1 year experience signing antineoplastic orders required.</li><li>Clinical Nurse Practitioner experience in an ambulatory practice managing an oncology focused patient population required.</li><li>Oncology Nursing Board Certification strongly preferred.</li><li>Prior oncology RN experience administering antineoplastics is strongly preferred.
</li><li>Proficiency with Epic and EMRs strongly preferred.
</li><li>EPIC Inbasket management, telemedicine experience strongly preferred.

The Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN) provides support for complete and efficient patient care within practices and/or locations of the Department of Dermatology. Working under the direction of the Practice Manager and/or Practice Coordinator, the LPN will interact with customers in person, by telephone and/or electronically. The solid tumor hematology oncology Physician Assistant provides comprehensive ambulatory care to one or more disease specific medical oncology patient populations.

With an interdisciplinary team approach, this provider promotes a collaborative relationship between all providers, professional nurses and administrative staff, to ensure continuity of patient care and efficient use of resources. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of solid tumor medical oncology patients, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and development and implementation of appropriate plans of care across the trajectory of illness for patients.<br>

In addition to providing direct and indirect patient care, the hematology oncology PA serves as a role model for professional advanced practice and participates in the professional development of the team through teaching, committee involvement or quality and safety initiatives. The hematology oncology PA will provide thorough, compassionate, culturally sensitive clinical care and should demonstrate operational flexibility and strong leadership, problem-solving and communication skills in order to work effectively with other members of the team.
