MAJOR FUNCTION:
The 820 Billing Assistant is responsible for assisting billing team with collection of Managed Care Organization payments.
SPECIFIC DUTIES &amp; RESPONSIBILITIES:<ul><li>
Reconcile client number of days stay between AWARDS and Census Reports</li><li>
Verify accuracy of clients&rsquo; health insurance in AWARDS through ePaces</li><li>
Access real-time payer portals to verify accuracy in authorization ID entered in AWARDS</li><li>
Verify and confirm appropriate diagnosis and procedure coding as per clinical documentation</li><li>
Navigate payee websites/portals to keep track payments or denials</li><li>
Works closely with co-workers to analyze and identify issues</li><li>
Calling insurance companies to research the reason for denials</li><li>
Post payments in AWARDS database</li></ul>

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Chief Advanced Practice Provider, the Physician Assistant will provide services primarily to the Emergency Medicine Department at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, with occasional shifts at the Allen Hospital and/or NYP, Westchester. Individual will perform a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and outcome evaluation of patients. Individual will also participate in performance improvement, research and educational activities. Day, evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts are required.

Responsibilities

<li><ul><li>Obtain patients' history, perform physical examinations, order and evaluate appropriate laboratory, radiographic and electrocardiographic studies.</li>
<li>Review laboratory results and other clinical information pertinent to patient health, order appropriate tests and other ancillary services as needed, and develop care plans for patients.</li>
<li>Assist in the management of medical and surgical emergencies.</li>
