Senior Data Engineer

The Senior Data Engineer, also referred to across the team as the Data Solutions Lead (DSL), is responsible for designing high-impact data and analytics solutions that help higher education institutions unlock the full value of their data within the Edify platform.

This role sits at the intersection of data architecture, partner strategy, and product innovation. The DSL partners closely with Strategic Leaders, Data Engineers, and Product teams to translate complex institutional challenges into scalable, well-architected data solutions that drive measurable outcomes.

Unlike traditional data engineering roles, the DSL&rsquo;s primary day-to-day work does not focus on building pipelines or writing production code. Instead, they lead discovery, shape solution design, guide implementation, and ensure that delivered solutions are aligned to partner goals, technically sound, and positioned for long-term success.

We are seeking a leader who can connect data systems to real-world impact, bringing both technical depth and consultative strength to help institutions modernize their data ecosystems and explore emerging capabilities such as advanced analytics and AI-driven solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

As a member of the EAB Research Partner Engagement team, this Specialist role is on the front lines of tracking and executing against our scaled plans for partner engagement. <li>Collaborate with the QA team, development team, and business partners to ensure the scope of tests is comprehensive and aligned with team&rsquo;s quality goals.</li>
<li>Experience with identifying defects and overall defect management using QA tools</li>
<li>Experience collaborating across onsite/offshore teams and managing automation expectations including owning automation QA sign offs for feature releases and frequent patch releases</li>
<li>Demonstrate programming skills and proven experience in Python or Java</li>
<li>Provide input during key sprint team review sessions (e.g., iteration kickoff/retrospectives, release readiness, etc.)</li>
<li>Participate in QA process improvement initiatives and cross-team/company activities
</li></ul>Basic Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent experience</li>
<li>5+ years of direct QA automation experience in a web or mobile development environment</li>
<li>Proven hands-on experience with BDD frameworks and coding languages</li>
<li>Proficiency in mobile automation and experience in creating cross-platform test frameworks and maintaining test suites across Android and iOS</li>
<li>Experience creating comprehensive automated test scenarios, data across multiple levels: feature, integration, and end-to-end</li>
<li>Strong understanding of functional and regression testing for complex workflows</li>
<li>Knowledge of Agile/Scrum development methodologies.</li>
<li>Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLab, etc)</li>
<li>Knowledge of database concepts and proficiency with any RDBMS
</li><li>Familiarity with general programming concepts such as loops, packages, builds, and source control</li>
<li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience collaborating across onshore/offshore teams</li>
<li>Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment</li>
</ul>
Ideal Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Experience working in a cloud-based environment</li>
<li>Exposure to AI or ML-based products, and AI-powered test automation tools (e.g., Testim, mabl, Functionize)</li>
<li>Experience using generative AI to enhance QA productivity (e.g., for test design or data generation)</li>
<li>Familiarity with AI testing principles such as explainability, bias detection, and validation of machine learning outcomes.</li>
<li>Prior exposure to security testing</li>
<li>Knowledge of higher education data and/or university IT systems</li>
<li>Ability to work collaboratively in a results-driven, team-oriented environment</li>

Compensation:

The anticipated starting salary (base) range for this role is $85,500 - $115,000 per year. Actual salary varies due to factors that may include but not be limited to relevant experience, skills, and location. At EAB, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the starting salary range for their role.

This hire will additionally be eligible for discretionary bonus or incentive compensation. Variable compensation may depend on various factors, such as individual and organizational performance.
