The solid tumor hematology oncology Physician Assistant provides comprehensive ambulatory care to one or more disease specific medical oncology patient populations.

With an interdisciplinary team approach, this provider promotes a collaborative relationship between all providers, professional nurses and administrative staff, to ensure continuity of patient care and efficient use of resources. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of solid tumor medical oncology patients, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and development and implementation of appropriate plans of care across the trajectory of illness for patients.<br>

In addition to providing direct and indirect patient care, the hematology oncology PA serves as a role model for professional advanced practice and participates in the professional development of the team through teaching, committee involvement or quality and safety initiatives. The hematology oncology PA will provide thorough, compassionate, culturally sensitive clinical care and should demonstrate operational flexibility and strong leadership, problem-solving and communication skills in order to work effectively with other members of the team.

Position Overview<br>
<ul><li>The Medical Assistant (MA) provides compassionate and individualized care to inpatients and outpatients, and clinical assistance to providers of patients scheduled for cardiac ultrasound testing, as well as assist other staff to ensure an efficient quality and safety-based work flow.
</li><li>Maintains neat, clean and safe patient care areas; maintains supply inventory ensuring proper par levels and product expiration. Provides efficient set-up and turnover of procedure room between patients and maintains positive patient interaction while providing safe patient care. The MUSIC (Medicine United with Surgery in Caring for IBD patients) clinic here at Boston Children&rsquo;s Hospital is a clinic within the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Center. This multidisciplinary clinic is offered for children who have either had surgery or are considering surgery as a treatment for inflammatory bowel disease. We also provide second opinions on medical management/treatment recommendations for IBD patients.<br>

<b>Key Responsibilities:</b><br>
<ul><li>Providing direct patient care in both the MUSIC Program Clinics and the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Center Clinics in our Boston and Waltham locations. This includes providing patient assessment, obtaining medication histories, management and education on the care of ostomies/enteral tubes, medications and other care needs in the clinic setting.</li><li>Coordination of community-based needs for IBD patients including collaboration with outside resources such as schools, camps, VNAs, home medical supply companies, pharmacies.</li><li>Management of EPIC in-basket messages including answering patient questions and phone calls; assisting with medication refills, prior authorizations, durable medical equipment renewals.</li></ul>
