Perform Specimen Processing Activities | Play a key role in patient care by performing specimen processing tasks such receiving, sorting and prioritizing specimens and requests; matching specimens against requisitions for appropriate tube type; centrifuging and aliquoting specimens; processing timed urine collections; resulting and reviewing entries for all reference lab testing; performing blood draws on patients; and performing various computer functions.
Provide Customer Service | Exercise your customer service skills by responding promptly, courteously, and professionally to inquiries from patients, clients, and hospital and laboratory staff.
Share Your Knowledge | Impart your laboratory wisdom by orienting and training new employees; participate in performance improvement activities and support the hospital in meeting JCAHO, CLIA, and CAP accreditation standards.
Utilize Problem-Solving Skills | Resolve specimen and order-related problems in a timely, thorough, and accurate manner and provide appropriate documentation for supervisor review.

<ul><li>High school graduation or equivalent AND one (1) year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience
</li></ul>OR
<ul><li>Completion of a laboratory assistant course approved by the American Society for Clinical Pathology

</li></ul>Additional DLMP requirements :
<ul><li>Completion of a Phlebotomy course

As a C LT 2, you will be responsible for pre-analytic laboratory procedures such as phlebotomy and specimen processing as well as performing several rapid tests on - site. This position may rotate between the Husky Health Center, South Lake Union, and Eastside Specialty Center clinical laboratories as needed .

The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine &amp; Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) 2 with the Microbiology Team at the University of Washington Medical Center &ndash; Montlake.
CLT 2s in the Microbiology Laboratory are experienced specimen processors that provide excellent patient care by performing inventory, ordering, receiving, and quality control on supplies.
Work schedule:
<ul><li>FTE 100%
</li><li>Monday to Friday with rotating weekends and holidays
</li><li>Day shift on Monday to Friday. Weekends and holiday may vary
</li></ul>What you&rsquo;ll contribute:
<ul><li>Uses hc1 to track and resolve problems regarding specimen quality, including labeling, stability and tube type. Refers technical questions to AD Medical Laboratory Scientist or Setup Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead.
</li><li>Monitors training of new employees and students and assesses status at the completion of the training.
</li><li>Performs or guides other qualified employees in doing direct observations for annual competency assessments.
</li><li>Performs blood culture volume monitoring quarterly and prepares the data to be sent to responsible areas.
</li><li>Inventories reagents in setup.
</li><li>Sets up quality control on media or for reagents when the CLT Lead is not available.
</li><li>Trained in inventory and purchasing when the CLT Lead is not available.
</li><li>Ensures the procedures and documents in Media lab are up to date. Makes minor edits to procedures. Reviews any major procedure changes. Keeps the printed backup for all manual up to date.
</li><li>Helps create the annual competency quizzes and any new procedure quizzes.
</li><li>Be a resource for CLT 1s.
</li></ul>Also performs CLT 1 duties:
<ul><li>Possesses working knowledge of the laboratory information system including accessioning test requests, tracking specimens and looking up results.
</li><li>Batches and un-batches specimens from other divisions and transports them appropriately.
</li><li>Operates the WASP to process approved specimens, performs daily and monthly maintenance and troubleshoot errors.
</li><li>Processes bacterial and fungal cultures for all specimen types
</li><li>Prepares and stains direct smears including, but not limited to, Gram stains, KOH preps, Trichromes, and malaria preps.
</li><li>Answers phone calls and directs questions to appropriate personnel.
</li><li>Interacts with health care providers and responds to questions concerning specimens in a professional manner.
</li><li>Trouble shoots specimen issues and enters cases in hc1.
</li><li>Follows procedures and knows where to find information in Media Lab.
</li><li>Collects and cleans glassware, collects and disposes of biological waste, and unpacks supplies and reagents.
</li><li>Possess working knowledge of the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, such as the biological safety cabinet, centrifuges, cytocentrifuges, stomachers, fume hoods, incubators, dry baths, refrigerators and freezers.

The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine &amp; Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) 1 with the Molecular Microbiology Team at the University of Washington Medical Center &ndash; Montlake.
The Molecular Microbiology Lab has been offering broad-range detection of bacteria, AFB, and fungi for UW Medicine patients and beyond for more than two decades. Providers from all over the United States send precious specimens to our laboratory. We have a very lively and talented group of MLSs and Clinical Laboratory Technicians (CLTs) who work as a team to deliver timely test results. We stay at the cutting edge of molecular technology as we routinely launch new tests and improve our current ones.
The MLS 1 performs laboratory tests, interprets results, and reports results in the laboratory information system, effectively playing a key role in patient care. This role supports other MLSs, faculty, and students and communicates courteously and clearly with hospital and laboratory staff to resolve problems. Additionally, the MLS 1 establishes and maintains a positive attitude toward self, others, and the workplace.

 The Tapscott Lab is composed of an interactive group of scientists investigating gene transcription in a chromatin context in normal development and disease. Areas of current interest focus on how abnormal activation of early developmental programs alters gene expression and cell fate in human diseases, including facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) and certain cancers. The lab focuses on mechanisms spanning epigenetics, transcription, translation, cell cycle regulation, and cell signaling, as well as how diseased cells interact with their environment through RNA/protein secretion and immune evasion. Ongoing projects include CRISPR- and drug-based screens to identify regulators capable of suppressing the disease-causing early developmental program for therapeutic intervention. Findings from model developmental systems are applied to understand human diseases, including cancers and degenerative diseases.
