As part of our global team, you&rsquo;ll have the opportunity to perform and coordinate all aspects of the clinical monitoring and site management process. As a Clinical Research Associate (Level II), you'll conduct remote or on-site visits to assess protocol and regulatory compliance and manage required documentation. You will manage procedures and guidelines from different sponsors and/or monitoring environments (i.e., FSO, FSP, Government, etc.). Acting as a site processes specialist, you will ensure that the trial is conducted in accordance with the approved protocol, ICH-GCP guidelines, applicable regulations, and SOPs to guarantee subjects' rights, well-being, and data reliability. What You&rsquo;ll Do: 
<ul><li>Monitors investigator sites with a risk-based monitoring approach: applies root cause analysis (RCA), critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify site processes failure and corrective/preventive actions to bring the site into compliance and decrease risks. Ensures data accuracy through SDR, SDV and CRF review as applicable through on-site and remote monitoring activities. Assess investigational product through physical inventory and records review. Documents observations in reports and letters in a timely manner using approved business writing standards. Escalates observed deficiencies and issues to clinical management expeditiously and follow all issues through to resolution. May need to maintain regular contact between monitoring visits with investigative sites to confirm that the protocol is being followed, that previously identified issues are being resolved and that the data is being recorded in a timely manner. Conducts monitoring tasks in accordance with the approved monitoring plan. Participates in the investigator payment process. Ensures a shared responsibility with other project team members on issues/findings resolution. Position Summary

Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) provides global leadership in scientific research, health and medical education, and patient care. Home to approximately 4,472 students and over 3,000 part-time and full-time faculty members, the health sciences campus includes the four professional schools&mdash;the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, the College of Dental Medicine, the School of Nursing, and the Mailman School of Public Health.

Clinical Research Coordinators (CRCs) are key members of research teams at Columbia. They collaborate closely with Principal Investigators (PIs) managing and overseeing the various aspects of clinical trials and research. Key responsibilities and tasks include study coordination, data collection, regulatory compliance, and serving as a Research liaison. The ideal candidate would need strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

A background in research or health administration is a plus, but not a requirement.

Responsibilities

Clinical Trials Coordination
<ul>
<li>Responsible for day-to-day aspects of study protocol tasks including participant recruitment, screening, enrollment, and follow-up with study participants, specimen processing, and other key protocol elements under direct supervision.</li>
<li>Effectively communicate and maintain relationships with potential study subjects, participants, clinicians, other health care providers, sponsors, and research office staff to support the successful administration of clinical trials.</li>
<li>Assist with the coordination of research team meetings, investigator check-ins, sponsor visits, external audits, and other stakeholder engagement activities. Supports research team members on various clinical trials or study related tasks.</li>
<li>Maintain accurate and complete clinical research files, which may include administering questionnaires and maintenance of case report forms (CRFs)</li>
<li>Complete data entry activities with supervision and support as needed. Data entry may include Protected Health Information (PHI), clinical and billing or other administrative data.</li>
<li>Possess understanding and awareness of Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPA).</li>
<li>Coordinate financial transactions related to the study including compensation to study subjects for their participation and helping them troubleshoot any issues.</li>
<li>Adhere to workplace and patient safety protocols, monitor the area and ensure compliance with ethical and safety standards for research, and maintain research supply inventor, requesting additional items as needed.</li>
<li>Assists in submission of closeout documents to applicable agencies and sponsoring parties in accordance with policies and procedures.</li>
<li>Performs all other duties as assigned.</li>

<li>Ensure timely notification and/or communication between the Principal Investigator and compliance offices and study sponsors.</li>

Minimum Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in education, training, and experience.</li>
<li>Must possess a customer service orientation, with the ability to interact and collaborate positively, constructively, and effectively with multiple stakeholders.</li>
<li>Capacity to work semi-independently and successfully within teams in a deadline driven, multi-tasking environment.</li>
<li>Strong commitment to fostering diversity and equity.</li>
<li>Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including strong Excel skills.</li>
<li>Ability and willingness to learn new systems and programs.</li>

Preferred Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Bi-lingual (Spanish and English).</li>
<li>At least 2 years of experience in a relevant clinical research field.</li>
<li>Familiarity with Columbia health and research systems.</li>
<li>Education in a scientific, health-related, or business administration program or experience with observational research or in laboratory setting.</li>
<li>Experience with electronic medical records and/or research data entry, including REDCap and Qualtrics, iLab, or OpenSpeciman.</li>
<li>Knowledge of clinical research systems and processes, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines, HIPAA, IRB and other regulatory and compliance activities.</li>
<li>Phlebotomy certification.</li></ul>

Responsible for providing moderate to advanced range of coordination of Research studies conducted at the Medical Center, assists with recruitment, enrollment, research data collection and study coordination activities. Maintain and update IRB protocols. Performs intra-operative monitoring and serves as liaison with internal and external funding agencies. Ensures the accurate execution of research protocols in accordance with Good Clinical Practices, HIPAA, and required obligations to patient/subject, Principal Investigator, Research Team and sponsor. Interfaces directly with patients/subjects and Principal Investigator in support of the clinical trials if applicable. Establishes liaisons with relevant parties at the Medical Center that may include: Research Nurses, Research Pharmacist, Program Managers, Medical Technicians, Clinical Information Systems and Regulatory Services. Might assist in the initiation and management of research studies. Responsible for specialized lab techniques after appropriate training.
Job Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Human Subjects&rsquo; Research &ndash; As applicable, oversee the submission of necessary documents required by the NYU Institutional Board (IRB), NYU Office of Clinical Trials and any other appropriate parties in order to obtain approval to conduct human subjects research (e.g., ensures the update and submission of necessary documents and/or forms to appropriate destination). Might prepare, audit and submit monthly enrollment statistics to the Office of Clinical Trials, and provides other information in timely manner, as necessary.</li><li>
Study Regulations &ndash; Aware of study regulatory status and keep an up to date copy of regulatory documents. Perform and document the informed consent process and ensure that the patient/subject fully understands what is required of them throughout the study. Follows through regularly with the patient/subjects reminding them of visits and compliance. May monitor any outward effects or issues regarding patient/subject safety and report this to the Principal Investigator, Physician and/or Research Nurse.</li><li>
Recruitment - Screens potential patients/subjects for eligibility to the study. This may include gathering information from the medical record, physician referral, advertisement and directly scheduling a visit to evaluate the patient/subject. Reviews all the elements of the screening process with the Principal Investigator that being: inclusion/exclusion criteria, completed informed consent, documentation of the event and the patient/subject willingness to participate in the study.</li><li>
Clinical Competency - competency in performing EKG, phlebotomy technique, centrifuge, handling, storing and shipping of specimens. Clinical training and didactic competency tests may be required to perform basic procedures as part of position expectations. In house training and certification will be provided. Other trainings and competencies may be included as required.</li><li>
Reporting and Analysis- Researches, compiles and consolidates data and conducts preliminary analyzes to data collected for presentation to sponsoring and regulatory agencies. Provides reports to all necessary parties (e.g., the principal investigator, sponsoring agency, etc.) on the progress of the study as needed. Formulates, prepares database and generates preliminary measurement reports for review by PI. May complete assessments on study subjects/patients following protocol (with proper training); continues to follow-through with items and patients as part of the research study.</li><li>
Data Management &ndash; Responsible for collecting and auditing patient information for the research project(s). This may include abstraction of data from the patient chart (e.g., laboratory or diagnostic test results, surgical/radiation treatments delivered, adverse drug reactions, etc); abstraction of data for publications, or data collection from outside physicians&rsquo; offices. Audits and manages data from and into the database. Prepares forms and reports, compiles and analyses data, statistics, and other materials for reports. Conducts study visits, obtains and documents information within the time frame specified.</li><li>
Lab Duties &ndash; Able to perform basic lab duties and more advanced duties. Maintain a lab notebook and organize lab data to present at weekly lab meetings. Lab duties include running experiments and processing samples. Maintain the organization of the lab, including supply ordering and maintenance of lab equipment/cleaning logs.</li><li>
Decision Making and Problems Solving - Combines and evaluates information and data to make decisions about relative importance of information and choosing the best solution to solve problems. Resolves complex situations and refers non-solved issues and questions with recommendation to supervisor. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required.</li><li>
Continuous Learning - Position requires ongoing continuing education in all areas of research development (training programs are provided through the SOM). Promotes own professional growth and development in research role and maintains current expertise in area of practice. Maintains annual requirement of 10 CEUs in continuing research education; employee must demonstrate proof of ongoing research education. Serves as a resource to peers and works collaboratively with other disciplines within the area of expertise.</li></ul>
Minimum Qualifications: 
To qualify you must have a Bachelor degree or equivalent in business administration, health care administration or related field. 
Minimum of two years of progressively responsible project coordination experience, preferably in a research setting. 
Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook. Familiar with Internet applications. 
Effective oral, written, communication, interpersonal skills. 
Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management and must work and communicate effectively with both internal and external customers. 
Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently. 
Commitment to continuous learning as required by department administration. 
Ability to operate research related equipment 
Ability to work and make decisions independently. 
Time management skills and ability to multitask. 
Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems: Ability to work well under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications: 
Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) Certification is preferred (required in some disciplines).. 
Experience working in an Academic Medical Center preferred
