Phlebotomist / Front Desk (Float)

<div><p>The Bujor Lab is within the Arthritis and Autoimmune Disease Center (AADC). Our program focuses on systemic sclerosis (scleroderma/SSc), studying the interaction of immunity and fibrosis, identifying biomarkers, and developing/validating outcome measures for SSc clinical trials. We conduct translational research alongside clinical care, including novel approaches to measure and treat skin fibrosis (e.g., spatial frequency domain imaging [SFDI]) and to assess vasculopathy (e.g., nailfold video capillaroscopy [NVC] and other optical methods). Work is supported by NIH R01s and foundation/industry sponsors. The lab maintains a scleroderma biorepository and associated clinical/research databases to store specimens and data for approved research on SSc and related conditions. The Research Coordinator will assist the initiation, implementation and administration of clinical research. This position will require on-campus subject interaction; regulatory and IRB administration. This position will be supervised to assist with the engagement, recruitment and retention of study participants for multiple research studies. This position will be responsible for organizing and maintaining biorepository.</p><br>

Essential Functions
</b></p><ul><li>RA will screen and track the eligibility of patients seen in the clinic as well as outside referrals for eligibility in research studies. Once eligibility is met and reviewed by PI, the RA will schedule the participant for a screening and baseline visit to confirm eligibility. The RA may assist with obtaining informed consent. Additional tasks include scheduling patients for study visits and assist the PI with conducting study interviews/surveys, data collection and entry in electronic database capture system/Velos/REDCap. The research assistant will help to identify any issues with study adherence and safety and report issues immediately to PI.</li>
<li>Assist with the development of patient recruitment strategies including creating posters, flyer, or handouts. Create checklists to ensure protocol procedures are being followed. The RA will review medical records for potential study participants in EPIC and outside referral sources and inform the PI of potential participants to contact. The RA will conduct telephone pre-screening interviews to determine initial eligibility; final eligibility will be determined by the PI. Assist with study visits by preparing necessary forms and supplies for the test day and be the participant navigator for the visit.</li>
<li>Assist in drafting IRB amendments and protocol deviations if necessary and support the PI with submission of documents to local IRB if applicable. Attend study related meetings and complete action items assigned to the RA.</li>

We are looking for a talented, motivated Clinical Research Assistant who is eager to learn and work in a quickly adaptive environment to join Dr. Scott Snapper&rsquo;s Lab in the IBD Center at Boston Children&rsquo;s Hospital. You will be working with a team of clinical research coordinators in a collaborative, pre-professional environment and will be involved in an exciting area of research that is focused on better understanding the genetic and environmental factors that lead to the pathogenesis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. To advance our understanding of this complex disease, we leverage expertise in gastroenterology, mucosal immunology, genomics/bioinformatics, and translational medicine.<br>

<b>Key Responsibilities:</b><ul><li>
Coordinating various clinical and translational research studies.</li><li>

The faculty in MBM are united by a common interest in the biology of microbes (bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites) and the effects of microbes on human and animal hosts. The microbial pathogens program studies microorganisms that cause infectious diseases, with emphasis on rigorous analysis of these pathogens and the immune responses that restrict them. Program investigators direct detailed studies of pathogenic bacteria, viruses, fungi and eukaryotic parasites. Research topics include structural analysis of virus entry, viral evolution, viral oncogenes, intracellular bacterial pathogens, microorganisms that cause diarrhea and pneumonia, intracellular signaling, pathogen adhesion, genetic determinants involved in susceptibility to infection, vaccine development, and identification of novel antimicrobial agents.</p>
What You'll Do:
<div>Under close supervision of the principal investigator, other lab members, and senior scientists in collaborating labs who are familiar with the techniques required, the Research Technician may conduct a variety of experiments using a variety of skills, which may include culturing bacterial and mammalian cells, making mesoscale and high-throughput measurements of treatment responses, quantitative analysis, performing medium-scale microscopy experiments, Python or Matlab programming, synthesizing information from the published literature, and use and development of machine learning algorithms. In these capacities, the Research Technician will also record test results and analyze data using statistics. High- and meso-throughout experiments are designed using custom software in the lab; after learning how to design experiments from others in the lab, the Research Technician should be able to design experiments using Python and Matlab. Part of the work must be carried out in a Biosafety level 3 laboratory facility. Work in the BSL-3 facility is essential to the work of the lab and includes but is not limited to experimentation with the pathogenic bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis; BSL-3 work requires a high attention to detail, work under pressure, good decision making in the face of dynamic conditions, and laboratory work while wearing BSL-3 specific personal protective equipment. This project is highly collaborative, requiring good teamwork skills.</div><ul><li>
Conduct routine experiments:<ul><li>
follow and design appropriate protocols/procedures to achieve results and test specific hypotheses.</li><li>
