 The Medical Assistant (MA) works under the direction and supervision of licensed healthcare professionals. The MA is primarily responsible for encounter documentation, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting medical providers during examinations.  Performs procedures including but not limited to administering injections, collecting specimens, electrocardiogram, hearing test, vision tests, in-house point of care testing, lab draws, and ear lavage.

 Apply and remove bandages and dressing to superficial incisions or lacerations; apply orthopedic appliances such as knee immobilizers, envelope slings, and similar devices. Remove sutures or staples from superficial incisions or lacerations.

</li><li>Sorting and faxing prescription refills from pharmacy once approved by the provider.
</li><li>Arrange and assist patients with proper referrals with verification of process with the patient&rsquo;s insurance company including medical consultations, radiology orders, and laboratory orders.
</li><li>Prepare and assist in release and acquisition of patient medical records after proper consent if received.
</li><li>Scanning of medically necessary records/consults into the patient&rsquo;s Electronic Health Record for access and retrieval by providers and other staff in a timely manner.
</li><li>Checking phone messages in a timely manner and returning calls to the patient or routing calls/messages to the responsible party.
</li><li>Following Medication Policy for administration, receiving, and transferring medications and vaccines.
</li><li>Completing assigned tasks on daily schedule and monthly assigned duties.
</li><li>Completing assigned tasks of performing controls of POCT machines and documentation of results.
</li><li>Food Bank and Food RX training
</li><li>Completion of ASN TVFC state training modules for receiving, storing, transferring medication and vaccines from the state and knowledge of Data Loggers.
</li><li>Following guidelines for ordering, maintaining, and storing Private medications and vaccines.
</li><li>Knowledgeable of the incident reporting system for occurrences in the clinic.
</li><li>Knowledgeable and able to demonstrate ability to call codes
</li><li>Life Safety -emergency exits, fire extinguishers, spill kits, eye wash stations.
 </li><li>Provides input regarding quality projects and supporting benchmarks.
</li><li>Other duties as assigned.
</li><li>High School Diploma or equivalent.

II. CLINICAL
<ul><li>Rooming patient with a Warm Welcome
</li><li>Measuring and recording vital signs. Recording patient interview, history and chief complaint and allergies if applicable.
</li><li>Providing patient education with regards to office policies, medications, management of diseases, home treatments and special diets.
</li><li>Preparing patients for examinations and performing routine screening tests.
</li><li>Assisting the physician with exams and minor office surgery.
</li><li>Preparing the lab form, phlebotomy and collection of other lab specimens.
</li><li>Performing basic lab tests.
</li><li>Follows the &ldquo;Time Out&rdquo; Protocol for all procedures
</li><li>Familiar with our Ryan White, Title X, Sliding Fee scale documentation
</li><li>Performing EKGs.
</li><li>Assisting with X-ray and Physical Therapy procedures.
</li><li>Preparing and administering medications with physician&rsquo;s authorizations.
</li><li>Change dressings, applying bandages, and other first aid procedures.
</li><li>Maintaining supplies, equipment, stocking, and sterilizing instruments.
</li><li>Disposing of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards.
