 The Clinical Research Assistant (RA) provides foundational support in the conduct of clinical trials at the site level. Our laboratory investigates the neurobiology of sleep; in particular, we hope to identify the neurotransmitters and neural pathways that underlie narcolepsy and other sleep disorders. If you have ever wondered why many women in menopause develop poor sleep, cognitive flexibility issues, and hot flashes, you may be interested in this research group. We have a 2+ year research position available. My name is Carrie Mahoney, I am an instructor in the Department of Neurology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). My project is investigating the role of the wake-promoting neurons of the lateral hypothalamus, the orexin neurons, in symptoms of menopause.

The job will require handling mice, rodent surgery, conducting behavioral tests (i.e. EPM, OF with Noldus-EthoVision) recording sleep and body temperature, and analysis of FLIR-video files. Other skills required include knowledge of histology, including sectioning and immunostaining mouse brains. The Research Assistant will learn and use a variety of molecular and behavioral methods including: immunohistochemistry, PCR, rodent surgery, physiologic recordings of sleep, and fiber photometry. The applicant should have good organizational skills as they will also assist in basic laboratory management such as mouse colony maintenance and ordering supplies. Ideally, the applicant will join our lab for at least 2 years.</p>

The Laboratory of Dr. Veronique VanderHorst at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (https://research.bidmc.org/veronica-vanderhorst) is recruiting a Research Assistant I. The new member will join a team of Research Assistants and Associates, postdoctoral fellows and senior staff to work on studies that focus on structure and function of brainstem circuits that mediate walking, breathing, muscle tone and arousal and how neurodegenerative pathologies impact these circuits and their function. This is done in parallel but closely related mouse and postmortem human research lines. Tools employed in the mouse lines include opto- and chemogenetic, fiberphotometry, conditional circuit mapping combined with EEG, EMG and plethysmography/gait assays to provide a physiological readout. For the human lines, we use standard and advanced staining tools, quantitative image analyses tools to extract data followed by integration with antemortem physiological readouts obtained through wearable devices.<br>
Responsibilities will involve tissue preparation, immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization, digitization, semi-quantitative and quantitative analyses, data management, perfusions and assistance with physiological assays. The RA will work with senior staff on the development of new protocols and preparation of datasets for inclusion in manuscripts.
</p><p>We are looking for a team member with excellent analytical and time management skills, who is comfortable working independently while at the same time being able to finetune work flow within a team setting, and who is able to provide consistent quality. The team research approach requires open communication and flexibility. Experience in Image J or QuPath, Excel, or Spike are strongly preferred.

In addition to providing direct and indirect patient care, the hematology oncology PA serves as a role model for professional advanced practice and participates in the professional development of the team through teaching, committee involvement or quality and safety initiatives. The hematology oncology PA will provide thorough, compassionate, culturally sensitive clinical care and should demonstrate operational flexibility and strong leadership, problem-solving and communication skills in order to work effectively with other members of the team.

We are expanding our Advanced Practice Provider team in a state of the art 44 bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit in a new Heart Center here at Boston Children&rsquo;s Hospital. We are looking for diverse and motivated individuals to join our team here in Boston. When you join our team you will work with a supportive group of Advanced Practice Providers, Attending Physicians and Fellows. You will be responsible for taking care of Pre and Post-operative highly acute cardiac patients, along with children who have cardiac medical needs in the intensive care unit. We have an extensive Orientation Program to prepare you for taking care of these critically ill patients and to thrive here at Boston Children&rsquo;s.
