Job Summary</b></p>
The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse registered in Massachusetts who is responsible and accountable for planning and providing patient care for assigned patients in accordance with Nursing Standards of Care as set forth in the Nursing Department's Clinical Practice Manual. The registered nurse demonstrates initiative, knowledge and clinical skills in caring for the patient with complex needs. The Registered Nurse demonstrates the ability to effectively manage patients by assuming full responsibility for the assessment, plan, implementation and evaluation of patient care and is directly responsible to a designated nurse manager, or supervisor.<br>

 The Staff Nurse practices at a high level of autonomy and accountability in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team to provide a continuum of patient care from prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, palliation, bereavement and survivorship. They are integral in coordinating patient care through specialized clinical centers and programs, including our partners in radiation oncology, surgery and clinical research, to develop and implement a personalized care plan for each patient aimed at achieving optimum clinical outcomes.

 The Staff Nurse systematically and continuously collects and assesses data related to patient health status to develop, execute, and evaluate the plan of care in the ambulatory/outpatient care setting. They provide necessary assessments, administer treatments, and communicate with the multidisciplinary care team. The Staff Nurse provides patient and family education and psychosocial and emotional support. They ensure that care is safe, holistic, efficient, effective, timely and meets the cultural, spiritual, and ethnic needs of each patient and family. While this position supports an MGBCI cost center operationally, the Staff Nurse functions within the Brigham and Women&rsquo;s Hospital Department of Nursing professional governance structure, and all nursing staff maintain reporting alignment through BWH nursing leadership.

 The Staff Nurse will be responsible for:

   The staff nurse serves as contact with patients at home and in the ambulatory/outpatient setting to ensure optimal clinical management in collaboration with attending physicians, advanced practice providers, fellow nurses, support staff and other members of the multidisciplinary care team.

   Communicates with patients via daily telephone triage and Gateway messages.
  </li>
  <li>
   Assists in triage of symptom management and medical urgencies/emergencies to attending physicians and advanced practice providers and guides the patient to the appropriate level of care in the appropriate time frame.

   Monitors patients at home for anticipated chemotherapy/surgery/radiation-associated toxicities, and screening for unanticipated toxicities/events.
  </li>
  <li>
   Coordinates home services including, but not limited to, visiting nursing, palliative care and hospice, home infusion, laboratory services and monitoring, etc.
  </li>
  <li>
   Coordinates and performs blood draws and routine flushing and maintenance of central lines, including dressing changes.
  </li>

   Coordinates, performs, and documents injections and vaccinations per protocol.
  </li>
  <li>
   Coordinates, performs and documents intravenous therapies within the practice and in collaboration with the Short Stay Infusion Units.

   Assists attending physicians and advanced practice providers with outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including, but not limited to, bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, etc.

   Educates patients and families about their disease, treatment plan, medications, and home care needs.
  </li>
  <li>
   Provides assistance with disability forms, FMLA forms, Advanced Directives, and pre-authorizations as needed.

   Assesses psychosocial needs of patients and families. Communicates with social services or psych for follow-up.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), in the Division of Newborn Medicine, is a Level III/IV, 30-bed referral center for critically ill infants requiring complex medical and surgical care. Highly specialized physicians, nurses, and support staff collaborate in the care of critically ill infants and their families. A team from multiple specialties within the hospital provides advanced therapies and family centered care for infants from around the region and the world.<br>
<br>
We work closely with the Fetal Care Surgery Center to coordinate both prenatal consultation and postnatal intensive care for infants with a wide range of prenatally diagnosed conditions. Neonatology attendings, fellows, pediatric surgical residents, and either neonatal nurse practitioners or pediatrician hospitalists are available on the unit 24 hours a day.<br>

Under the supervision of the registered nurse the Clinical Assistant will help provide basic bedside nursing care for complex neonatal and pediatric patients.</li><li>
In collaboration with the registered nurse, you may be responsible for obtaining vital signs, performing EKGs, and oxygen saturation measurements, while identifying and reporting unusual findings or changes in patient condition to the registered nurse.</li><li>
Transporting patients, stocking of supplies and equipment as needed.</li><li>
The Clinical Assistant role provides the opportunity to practice in a family centered environment.</li><li><b>
Ability to work 1 shift per week, this includes weekends, holidays both AM and PM shifts.</b></li></ul><b>
Minimum Qualifications</b><br>

<b>Education:</b><br>
A HS Diploma or equivalent.<br>
<br>
<b>Experience:</b><ul><li>
1-year CA experience, CNA certification, or Nursing Student with at least one clinical rotation.</li><li>
The ability to: exchange information on factual matters, schedule appointments, greet visitors, explain hospital policies and relay messages to appropriate personnel. This type of interaction requires courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors and/or hospital employees.</li><li>
Good communication skills.</li><li>
The ability to work on a team.</li></ul><b>
Licensure/ Certifications:</b><ul><li>
CNA certification (or 1-year CA experience &amp; Nursing Student with at least one clinical rotation)</li></ul></div>
