 The Patient Care Technician&rsquo;s primary function is to assist and support the Professional Registered Nurse in all aspects of direct and indirect patient care activities. The Patient Care Technician functions as a member of the unit staff under the direction and supervision of the professional Registered Nurse.

 Distributes fresh drinking water and nourishments to patients. Prepares patients for meals; assists or feeds patients as necessary. Feeds normal newborns as assigned.

 Provides morning care, bed baths and evening care according to established Nursing Care Procedures. Provides peri-care to appropriate patients.

 Provides newborn care to the infant including bath, dressing, obtaining foot prints, assistance with feeding (bottle and breast), glucose checks.

 Makes occupied and unoccupied beds.

 Ambulates patients and instructs on walker, cane and crutch walking as appropriate for assigned unit.

 Assists with pre-and post-operative care; positions patients as ordered; applies special equipment for safety; lifts and turns patients with proper and safe body mechanics and available resources.

 Applies comfort and safety measures (side rails and call lights).
 </li>

 Sets up oxygen and suction equipment and other respiratory equipment for adults and/or neonates.

 Applies dressings to Stage I and Stage II skin breakdown.

 Prepares patient room for MD or RN assessment, evaluation, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Assists with procedures in the normal newborn nursery as directed.

 Transports patients, equipment and/or supplies during urgent and emergent situations and to front door on discharge.

 Responds to emergency situations, secures assistance and initiates basic life support.

Description
Northwestern Medicine has an exciting opportunity for either a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant to work in our Maternal Fetal Medicine department. The APP will be working outpatient with potential for inpatient rounding.<ul><li>
The APP will support the provision of maternal-fetal medicine care across the division's clinical practice, with a particular focus on providing full-scope prenatal care for patients who require transfer to MFM due to fetal needs (for example, in collaboration with the Chicago Institute for Fetal Health).</li><li>
Provide care of patients with gestational and type 2 diabetes mellitus, including collaborating with MDs and other APPs to conduct glucose monitoring and clinical care related to diabetes management during pregnancy.</li><li>
Perform cross-coverage with the postpartum MFM APP, and be involved in the comprehensive care of postpartum patients who receive care in the MFM practice.</li><li>
Develop and support new initiatives regarding patient transfers of care, including optimizing intake of transferred patients and supporting optimal communication to referring providers after pregnancy.</li></ul>

 Active Illinois Pharmacy Technician License (IDFPR)

 Pharmacy Technician licenses issued after 12/31/07 must have either CERTIFIED or STUDENT designation by their second license renew in accordance with Section 9 of the Illinois Pharmacy Practice Act

 Licensed Technicians prior to 1/1/2008 certification requirement must meet department skill level
 </li>

 High School diploma or GED equivalent
 </li>

 1-2 years&rsquo; technician experience

Description

An experienced Registered Nurse, who in addition to providing direct patient care, is accountable for facilitating an interdisciplinary approach to patient care, patient flow, staffing, resource utilization, and problem solving on a given shift.
Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Facilitates unit operations on a shift basis according to policy, procedure, and regulatory requirements.</li><li>
Coordinates unit based staffing assignments on a shift basis to achieve high quality and cost effective care.</li><li>
Directs patient care provided by staff nurses and support personnel for a specific shift.</li><li>
Champions new initiatives and helps in unit/departmental or hospital wide committees/task forces.</li><li>
Communicates directly with patients and significant others about nursing care.</li><li>
