We are recruiting a full-time physician assistant (PA) at the faculty rank of Teaching Associate to join our spine surgery service at the University of Washington Medical Center &ndash; Northwest Hospital and Montlake Campuses. The successful candidate is expected to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team and have effective interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and clinical expertise. Our physician assistants are responsible for providing comprehensive orthopaedic care to patients in the surgical, inpatient and outpatient settings. Teaching associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This position has a flexible start date in the spring or summer of 2026.
Salary:
 
The base salary range for this position will be: $10,000 - $14,850 per month ($120,000-178,200 annually) commensurate with qualifications and years of experience as a physician assistant, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations.

Program Overview

The Advanced Care Partner Program creates a team-care structure to collaborate with PCPs who are managing complex patient panels.

The ACP &quot;care team&quot; model pairs a highly clinically experienced provider (ACP) with a PCP to collaborate closely by sharing the care and continuity management of the patient panel. The PCP's task queue provides the focus of this collaborative platform whereby the Advanced Care Partner devotes their work to keeping all categories within SLAs, provides real time responses to patient messages, follows up with chronic care monitoring and management, and intimately understands the patient panel &quot;as their own&quot;, such that complex patients are known well, medical issues are managed efficiently, highest quality conversations engage patients' trust, and continuity of care between the patient and two providers is seamless and exemplary. Further, the ACP care-team model promotes career-sustainability, mitigates the potential for decision fatigue, prevents practice isolation, and addresses burn-out risk factors. The program prioritizes well-being and belonging for both patients and PCPs.

Advanced Care Partner Role:

The Advanced Care Partner is a full-time, remote clinician who works business hours live online with a team of PCP peers, a clinical supervisor, and the Clinical Case Management team of Care Navigators and nurses, as needed, for highly complex cases. The ACP will partner with approximately 5 PCPs and their patient panels, owning these shared panels with longitudinal accountability over time.

The ACP is responsible for maintaining task category SLAs, including but not limited to:

<li>Answering clinical questions from patients and engaging in clinical dialogue to complete these conversations.</li>
<li>Clinical decision-making resulting from information coming from messages, lab results, and consults.</li>
<li>Owning medication changes, titrations, and adjustments for chronic conditions as needed.</li>
<li>Providing video visits and phone follow-up care as needed.</li>
<li>Completing clinical paperwork such as disability, FMLA, home health sign-offs.</li>
<li>Attention to closing patient care gaps, creating orders and follow up as needed</li>
<li>Processing Consults and providing related follow up management/care as needed.</li>
<li>Referrals to and collaboration with Clinical Case Management.</li>
<li>Providing urgent visit patient scheduling as needed.</li>

 The Certified Medical Assistant at Kinwell assists with prepping charts for daily appointments, managing the patient&rsquo;s appointment schedule, maintaining the cleanliness and supplies in the patient exam and waiting area, communicating patient status and needs to the clinician and assisting with check-out and follow up duties for patients. This important support role is fully responsible for managing all aspects of the patient greeting and check-in. The Certified Medical Assistant works under direct supervision of a healthcare practitioner to use their clinical knowledge and skills to assist in meeting the healthcare needs of our patients.
 
 
 
 Kinwell offers a $5,000 sign on bonus for external applicants and eligible rehires for this position. This role qualifies for an additional +7.5% pay differential for employees assigned to a home location in a qualifying Kinwell Clinic, which is currently our Ballard, Denny Way, and Westlake clinics.
 
 
 
 
 What You&rsquo;ll Do
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Greet patients and prepare them for physical examinations, including obtaining vital signs, weight, height, reviewing medications and medical history, allergies, and performing all ancillary tests required.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assist physicians during patient examinations and treatment.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provide patients with information regarding their visits and ensure comfort before and during exams.
 </li>
 <li>
 Set up for and assist in procedures as needed.
 </li>
 <li>
 Dispense medications and medical supplies as ordered by the physician.
 </li>
 <li>
 Perform ancillary tests such as rapid testing, blood draws, and other routine lab procedures as ordered by the physician.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assist in preparing specimens for laboratory testing and manage lab-related documentation.
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination rooms, clinic spaces, equipment, and stockrooms throughout the day.
 </li>
 <li>
 Perform routine maintenance checks and sterilization of medical equipment.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ensure clinic rooms and lab areas are properly stocked with necessary supplies and materials.
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintain inventory of lab and clinic supplies and reorder as necessary to ensure sufficient stock levels.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assist with managing clinic and clinician schedules to maximize efficiency and patient flow.
 </li>
 <li>
 Collaborate with Patient Care Coordinators (PCC) to review visit schedules and support daily clinical huddles.
 </li>
 <li>
 Facilitate daily huddle review of visit schedule for any patients requiring assistance from multiple care team resources or who have special needs or considerations for a successful visit.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ensure accurate record-keeping and documentation of patient visits, tests, and treatments in the electronic medical records (EMR) system.
 </li>
 <li>
 Follow HIPAA guidelines and safety rules as outlined in training.
 </li>
 <li>
 Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions regarding patient care, clinic operations, and workflow improvements.

 What You&rsquo;ll Bring
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) by time of hire.
 </li>
 <li>
 Active Washington state certification through the Department of Health (DOH) as a Certified Medical Assistant or Interim Certified Medical Assistant.
 </li>
 <li>
 High school diploma or equivalent.
 </li>
 <li>
 Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care strongly preferred at time of hire from American Heart Association (AHA), Red Cross, or Military Training Network (MTN) or willingness to obtain within 6-months of hire.
 </li>
 <li>
 Experience using EPIC. (Preferred)
 </li>
 <li>
 Demonstrated clinical expertise and proficiency in clinical procedures.
 </li>
 <li>
 Demonstrated focus on ensuring quality in patient care.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks while maintaining strong attention to detail.
 </li>
 <li>
 Proficiency in using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
 </li>
 <li>
 Excellent communication and ability to gather history and current conditions from patients prior to appointments.
 </li>
 <li>
 Independent decision-making skills and ability to influence others to resolve issues.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to work as a member of a team or independently without supervision or direction.
 </li>
 <li>
 Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment to handle sensitive and confidential information in a discreet and professional manner.
