<b>Job description</b><br>
NYLAG&rsquo;s Community Access Programs Unit and Consumer Protection Unit have an immediate opening for a Staff Attorney to join our team and work on increasing access to justice in Brooklyn. The Staff Attorney will focus on combatting deed theft, and other scams, aimed at robbing New Yorkers of their ability to maintain generational wealth. The Staff Attorney will staff CAPU&rsquo;s Mobile Legal Help Center and partner with elected officials and community-based organizations to bring legal services directly into the communities NYLAG serves. The Staff Attorney will conduct intake, provide advice and counsel, and assist clients with other brief legal services. The Staff Attorney will also create and give, Know Your Rights presentations. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to work directly within the communities NYLAG serves. The Staff Attorney will be supervised by the Director of the Community Access Programs Unit and also report to the Associate Director of the Consumer Protection Unit.<br>

<b>Duties and Responsibilities</b><ul><li>
Provide direct legal services, including executing basic wills, Transfer on Death Deeds, property transfers and Powers of Attorney as well as assisting with pro se probate and administration petitions, Heir at Law Deeds, analyzing homeowners&rsquo; circumstances in order to advise on courses of action and other legal matters that arise.</li><li>
Conduct intakes on NYLAG&rsquo;s Mobile Legal Help Center and at community-based sites.</li><li>
Assist with building relationships with community-based organizations and elected officials.</li><li>
Provide legal guidance and respond to inquiries from partner organizations, clients, volunteers, and other stakeholders.</li><li>
Develop and deliver Know Your Rights presentations.</li><li>
Serve as a liaison between the various NYLAG units doing trusts and estates and advance planning work.</li><li>

The ACLU&rsquo;s Project on Speech, Privacy, and Technology (SPT) is dedicated to protecting and expanding the First Amendment freedoms of expression, association, and inquiry; expanding the right to privacy and increasing the control that individuals have over their personal information; and ensuring that civil liberties are enhanced rather than compromised by new advances in science and technology. KIND seeks a Senior Attorney to provide senior-level expertise and leadership in the provision of legal services by KIND attorneys and pro bono partners to unaccompanied children facing removal proceedings. Minimum of 4 years of experience practicing immigration law, which should include representation of clients in humanitarian immigration claims such as asylum, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, U visas, and T visas.</li><li>
Minimum of 3 years of experience working with children, preferably immigrant and refugee children, and/or working with survivors of abuse, human trafficking, or other trauma.</li><li>
Experience working with law firm attorneys and/or other legal volunteers.</li><li>

   Direct attorneys to resources within the Firm to help resolve concerns or issues and coordinate available resources to find solutions.

   Track department calendar of activities and identifying potential conflicts with other firm events.

   Manage meeting and program logistics including scheduling, securing meeting rooms, coordinating meeting room set-up and materials, and trouble-shooting.

<b>Office of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Inspector General:</b><br>
The Office of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Inspector General (OIG) reviews and investigates the operations of the MTA and its contractors. The MTA, which employs over 70,000 people, includes among other entities, New York City Transit, the Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad, MTA Bridges &amp; Tunnels, Staten Island Rapid Transit, and MTA Construction &amp; Development.
<p> <b>Position Summary:</b></p><br>
Reporting directly to the Executive Deputy Inspector General for Legal (&ldquo;EDIG/Legal&rdquo;), the Senior Investigative Attorney directs and conducts confidential inquiries and investigations into complex allegations of fraud, waste and abuse in the operations and management of the MTA, its subsidiary agencies and contractors.

<b>Duties and Responsibilities:</b><ul><li>
Serves as the team lead, responsible for the planning, conducting, and reporting on confidential investigative inquiries, providing legal and investigative direction to team members.</li><li>
Identifies issues and avenues of investigative inquiry and develops a plan to assess their significance.
</li><li>Conduct interviews of agency and other personnel and prepares clear and concise interview memoranda.</li><li>
Develops and maintains professional working relationships and continually gains knowledge of evolving MTA agency operations.</li><li>
Conducts applicable legal research and analyzes documents related to confidential inquiries and investigations.</li><li>
Provides legal and investigative advice and support to the investigative and audit team members on confidential inquiries and investigations.</li><li>
Drafts comprehensive case memoranda, case summaries, subpoenas and other legal documents.
</li><li>Develop appropriate recommendations to improve agency operations, cost-efficiency, safety and assist the Audit Division with audits of MTA operations and processes.
</li><li>Prepares professionally written reports and referral letters on the investigative inquiry.</li><li>
Provides accurate and precise case progress reports on the status of the inquiry and avenues of investigation being pursued to the EDIG/Legal and other members of the Executive Staff, including the Inspector General.</li><li>
Represents the OIG at meetings with MTA officials, MTA subsidiary agencies and contractors, as well as with external local, state and federal agencies, including prosecutors&rsquo; offices.</li><li>
Assists in preparing MTA/OIG staff to testify at disciplinary hearings, arbitrations and court proceedings.</li><li>
Travel within the MTA geographic jurisdiction may be required.</li></ul><br>

Qualifications/Relevant Experience:</b><ul><li>
A Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree from an accredited educational institution and a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.</li><li>
Admission to the New York State Bar.</li><li>
Minimum of six years of legal experience, including substantial experience in conducting complex civil or criminal investigations or reviews, including legal research, interviews, pre-trial motion practice, litigation of trials and hearings, legal research, and brief writing.
</li><li>Familiarity with reviewing and interpreting high volumes of complex data, including, but not limited to, bank and financial records, cell phone records, time &amp; attendance records.
</li><li>Excellent analytical, organizational, inter-personal and oral and written communication skills.</li><li>
Ability to articulate the critical issues in a case accurately and precisely both orally and in writing.</li><li>
Demonstrated good judgment in assessing legal and investigative issues.</li><li>
Excellent writing skills for documenting interviews, summarizing evaluation findings, and drafting reports.</li><li>
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.</li><li>
