The Blanchard Laboratory at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking passionate and highly motivated individuals to join our team working on a funded NASA-supported research program investigating how spaceflight and environmental stressors influence the human brain and neurodegenerative disease risk. Researchers will work closely with members of the laboratory to engineer iPSC-derived vascular and multicellular 3D models of the human brain and apply these platforms to study mechanisms underlying Alzheimer&rsquo;s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders. These models are also being adapted for spaceflight experiments on the International Space Station, providing a unique opportunity to participate in cutting-edge work at the intersection of stem cell biology, neuroscience, and space medicine. The successful candidate will contribute to the generation and characterization of human stem cell&ndash;derived brain models and will assist with experimental workflows supporting both ground-based and spaceflight studies.

The Blanchard Laboratory is seeking highly skilled, creative, and motivated scientists to join our team studying how genetic and environmental factors shape the human brain&rsquo;s vulnerability to neurodegenerative disease.
Our research focuses on uncovering the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying Alzheimer&rsquo;s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders, with the goal of identifying new therapeutic strategies. To accomplish this, the lab develops and applies advanced human iPSC-based brain models, including multicellular organoid and assembloid systems that recapitulate key aspects of human brain biology. These platforms are integrated with genomic, computational, and systems-level approaches to understand how genetic risk factors and environmental exposures drive disease processes.

Details of Research Project: 
Research project focuses on the identification of signaling mechanisms operating in polarized epithelial cells in vertebrate embryos. It requires advanced knowledge of biochemistry, cell biology and molecular biology to contribute to studies of collective cell movements during early development. 
Technical Duties: 
The candidate will be involved in the identification of novel proteins involved in actomyosin contractions by mass spectrometry, and their validation in functional assays by RNA microinjections.
Managing live high-resolution imaging and quantitative biology methods.

Position Summary: 
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Associate for the Torres-V&aacute;zquez Lab at NYU Langone. The lab uses transparent zebrafish embryos to understand how blood and lymphatic vessels form and function, both during normal development and disease. Major techniques used in the lab include confocal imaging, gene expression analysis, forced gene expression, transgenesis, genome editing, cell transplantation, cell culture, and biochemistry. In this role, the successful candidate will conduct basic science research under the mentorship of a senior scientist. The individual is expected to build a portfolio of research accomplishments in preparation for pursuing a higher degree in biomedical research or medicine. Thus, this position is ideal for those who wish to pursue a Master&rsquo;s or Doctoral degree later.
The individual in this role is responsible for conducting fundamental scientific experiments within the assigned laboratory. These experiments will be based on ongoing research projects and protocols established in the lab, and the work will be carried out under the mentorship and supervision of a senior scientist. This position offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a research environment, allowing the individual to apply and deepen their understanding of biomedical science. Minimum Qualifications: 
To qualify you must have a College graduate with a B.S. or B.A. in Biomedical or Physical Sciences. A minimum commitment of two years is required and placement in position may not exceed three years.
Preferred Qualifications: 
Hands-on experience with one or more of the following: molecular biology, genetics, confocal microscopy, developmental or vascular biology, a genetically amenable model organism (for instance, zebrafish, flies, nematode, mouse), and data analysis. Self-motivation, a strong sense of responsibility, solid quantitative skills, and the ability to learn independently are also pluses.
