Position Summary: 
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Supervisor-Blood Bank (Part Time).
 
 
In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for complying with the NYUHC mission statement and provide safe and timely transfusion for all NYUHC patients by carrying out NYUHC transfusion technology processes according to established standards contained in the Blood Bank Quality Assurance Plan and Self Assessment (BBQAPSA) program.

Job Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Demonstrates knowledge of Blood Bank Quality Assurance Plan Self Assessment (BBQAPSA) including the ten BB organizational standards known as Quality System Essentials based on the current AABB standards.</li>
<li>Demonstrates core knowledge of Process Control functions and is able to safely and successfully control the related processes of: blood acquisition, storage, distribution, pre- transfusion compatibility testing, blood dispensing, adverse reaction management and component modification.</li>
<li>Blood and Component Accession: accurately reconciles shipments, inspects blood and components for acceptance, accessions into hemocare, labels, places on quarantine and/or performs confirmatory testing and stores in correct order in controlled temp devices. Voluntarily fills in down time with this activity.</li>
<li>Pre-transfusion compatibility testing (PTCT)Sample Triage: accurately reviews and accepts/rejects patient samples for PTCT; performs &amp; records thorough transfusion history and triages work according to SOP. Pre-transfusion compatibility testing (PTCT) Testing: Accurately tests and reports and reports ABO/RH, Atypical red cell antibody screen, EC, AHG XM, DAT, AID, Supplementary cell selection, FMH screens, and antibody titers.</li>
<li>Performs Quality Control and /or process audit functions as scheduled and according to SOP Component Modification:</li>
<li>Consistently performs correct: 1) Blood irradiation, 2) Sterile docking, 3) LRC selection) Hgb S negative testing (SDX) and selection, 5) CMV recording according to SOP.</li>
<li>Inventory management: regularly follows SOP for blood and components selection, consistently adhering to FIFO system where dictated by SOP.</li>
<li>NYU Donor/Autologous/Directed Donor/Special Products (Auto HPC, HLA &amp; NAIT SDP) Management.</li>
<li>Accurately integrates donor subsystem with inventory subsystem of Hemocare to guarantee appropriate test result entry and/or product availability to patients.</li>
<li>Blood Dispensing: issues all blood and components and coagulation factor concentrates and HPCs carefully and with full attention to special patient needs for blood attributes and component modifications as indicated in orders, and according to SOP. (Failure to complete transactions in the hemocare system &gt; 2 per year is a serious breach of patient safety and automatic 1).</li>
<li>Understands the importance of systems-based error reporting and uses Occurrence Report Form (ORF) as intended to contribute patient and donor safety in a non-punitive environment focused on process improvement. Knows records retention requirements for Hemocare patient, inventory, donor records.</li>
<li>Consistently retrieves necessary and sufficient available data from all computer systems and subsystems consistent with security access, including HIS, Hemocare, LIS.</li>
<li>Familiar with computer down records, documents, policies and forms.</li>
<li>Demonstrates knowledge of Documents and Records: uses computer systems to conduct patient, donor, tissue (stem cells) testing and processing activities recognizing and safeguarding the control functions of the systems designed to protect blood donors and recipients.</li>
<li>Understands, respects and maintains other work records, including record retention requirements, as set forth in the AABB Standards and in the NYU MC BBQAPSA. Familiar with BBQAPSA policy and procedure manual.</li>
<li>Demonstrates knowledge and awareness of Blood Bank (BB) Deviation, Non-conformance and Complications.</li>
<li>Successfully intervenes to prevent product non-conformance and its possible consequences including: fatal donor and recipient transfusion reactions; transfusion reaction (TX RCT) detection and resolution; reporting, and evaluation of donor or recipient complications.</li>
<li>Understands and carries out all procedures regarding products that are nonconforming, especially as pertain to inspection at accession, preparation and dispensing.</li>
<li>Appropriately detects, evaluates and reports suspected complications experienced by transfusion recipients. (Anaphylaxis, TRALI, AHTR, DHTR, Septic Shock, FNHTR, Anaphylactoid, Urticarial, Fluid Overload).</li>
<li>Consistently completes and/or reviews Transfusion Reaction Investigation Form thoroughly and accurately, documenting investigation, testing, and transcribing transfusionists' history before submitting for Medical Director review. Understands requirements to submit federal Biological Product Deviations, NYS Errors Incidents and Accidents reports.</li>
<li>Blood product labeling discrepancies and shipping/distribution anomalies are investigated and reported immediately to Quality Analyst,such as Stem Cell temp monitors,CMV required neg units, antigen negative units, etc..</li>
<li>Internal/External Assessments.Participates as directed in corrective action plans; preventive action planning, and quality monitoring activities. Complete NYULMC required in-services,Infection Control and Compliance.Completed annual health assessment at OHS.</li>
<li>Completes necessary read and sign documents for SOP updates in a timely manner. Participates successfully in proficiency exams.</li>
<li>Demonstrates knowledge of Facilities and Safety in Blood Banking including biological, chemical, radiation safety, and waste stream management.</li>

<li>Completes the blood transfusion monitoring - process improvement survey. Able to resolve internal/external complaints. Provides accurate quality control records. Familiar with safety regulations. Fire safety, biological or chemical policies.</li>

<li>Is competent to performall laboratory donor processes,inventory management, patient testing, blood dispensing, and information systems processes in all workstations and may be assigned to any of the sites under NYULMC Blood Bank management at any time.</li>
<li>Understands focus on dispensing in HJD BB and CBH Lab and adheres to issue policy. Familiar with the HJD and CBH service variations on policies and procedures.</li>
<li>Able to function in all workstations of the BB and operate all BB instrumentation. Familiar with the shipping program for HJD and CBH. Familiar with testing procedure of HJD; crossmatch andissue policy.</li>
<li>Maintain professional currency in the field of immunohematology and blood banking by attending programs that provide a minimum of twelve CEU per year.</li>

Position Summary: 
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Temporary/Per Diem Medical Assistant - In House Temporary Program (Full Time Coverage, As Needed).
 
 
In this role, the successful candidate The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians and/or Advanced Care Practitioners and nurses in providing patient care. This role is responsible for validating patient identifiers, preparing patients and rooms for examination, measuring and recording vital signs, drawing blood, and collecting other lab samples. The Medial Assistant is also responsible for administrative tasks, such as, scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and performing data entry.

Job Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Escorts patients to exam rooms</li><li>Cleans and stocks exam rooms</li><li>Measures and records patient vital signs</li><li>Obtains and processes blood samples as per NYULH policy</li><li>Support squality initiatives by following FGP guidelines for collecting and documenting information in the EMR</li><li>Promotes a positive patient experience</li><li>Communicates effectively with providers and administrative staff, escalate issues</li><li>Answers phone calls</li><li>Reviews and respond to inbasket messages</li><li>Follows up on Rx refill requests</li><li>Assists physician with patient intake &amp; transcribing visit into EPIC</li><li>Performs other duties as needed</li></ul>

Clinical &amp; Administrative Responsibilities 
<ul><li>Completes necessary intake which includes obtaining patient vital signs and other tests within defined scope of practice as needed.
</li><li>Follows guidelines for validating patient medical record when accessing and updating information, including patient name and date of birth.</li><li>Assists with maintaining patient flow to and from exam rooms and treatment areas. Assists in escorting patients and specimens throughout the facility.</li><li>Ensures exam rooms and treatment areas are cleaned per infection control standards after each patient.</li><li>Communicates the functionality and purpose of MyChart to patients during intake</li><li>Ensures the appropriate translation services or equipment is in place prior to the start of visit</li><li>Assists with blood/specimen collection and ensures proper handling and processing of patient specimens as as per organizational policy &amp; procedure.</li><li>Performs Point of Care testing such as: EKG, Glucose Testing, and Pregnancy Test, Urinalysis, following organizational policy &amp; procedure, and with documentation of any required competency in place.</li><li>Preps the appropriate patient encounter ensuring that all relevant information for visit is up-to-date including bloodwork, radiology images, medications, and past medical history.</li><li>Reviews and imports any &ldquo;Prepare for your Visit&rdquo;, &ldquo;Outside Information&rdquo; and patient history prior to provider encounter</li><li>Works with clinical team to ensure logbooks related to equipment, specimen collection and other clinical safety measures are followed per FGP standards.</li><li>Supports best practice workflows for MIPS by updating medical records with patient vital signs and Histories (Immunization, Medical &amp; Surgical). May also be required to scan and/or upload diagnostic reports according to their description and link them to their associated order in Epic.</li><li>Maintains patient privacy as it relates to HIPPA standards.</li><li>Handles appropriate patient calls and documents outcome of all patient communications as needed. Refers all clinical questions/concerns to RN/Provider.</li></ul></div>
<ul><li>Assists with inbasket message management including any necessary tasks related to patient medical advice requests as per best practices</li><li>Utilizes EPIC functionality to review and update patient records as well as maintain communication with peers and supervisors related to patient care</li><li>Assists physicians with procedure and/or set-up according to the specialty where necessary</li><li>Stocks exam/treatment rooms and/or supply closets with medical supplies, linen and medical equipment as needed. Effectively communicates as supplies need to be replenished.</li><li>Cleans and sterilizes designated equipment after use, , following organizational policy &amp; guidelines, and with documentation of required competency in place.</li><li>Supports FGP Clinical Quality Management by facilitating appropriate documentation and maintenance of clinical supplies and equipment.</li><li>Reviews appropriate downtime procedures as it relates to patient visit</li><li>Completes annual competencies such as Fire Safety, Hazardous Waste, Medsled, HIPPA compliance, etc.</li><li>Partners with administrative and clinical personnel to complete prior authorization, medication refills and referrals related to patient continuity of care.</li><li>Assists with prescription refill request by locating requested prescription in EMR, identifying last patient visit, and tasking RN, LPN, or Provider to evaluate, set up and/or process for renewal</li><li>Accompanies physician into exam room and transcribes history, including history of present illness, past medical and surgical history, family and social histories, medications and allergies, physical exam, laboratory and radiologic orders as dictated by the MD and document accurately the physician's encounter with the patient.</li><li>List all proper diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the physician.</li><li>Documents patient orders including laboratory tests, radiology tests, medications, etc.</li><li>Performs other duties as assigned.</li></ul>

(i.e. ways to optimize provider schedules, how to minimize delays, increase employee engagement, etc.)</li><li>Partners with Patient Access Center and Central Billing Office team members to support collaboration and promote a positive patient experience.</li><li>Takes a proactive approach in ensuring that practice staff are fully versed in the Access Agreement gold standard principles.</li></ul> 


Minimum Qualifications: 
To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or the equivalent. Completion of a Medical Assistant Program from an accredited institution OR upon hire hold a current medical assistant Certification from a Nationally Recognized accredited institution (such as American Association of Medical Assistant(AAMA); American Medical Technologies (AMT); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); National Healthcare Association (NHA)). Competencies: Working knowledge of English is evident in verbal, reading and writing abilities; other language an asset; demonstrated ability in computer skills. Ability to complete multiple tasks efficiently and thrive in a team work environment which pursues a positive patient care experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 
MA experience preferred. EKG, phlebotomy and venipuncture experience preferred.
