Comparative Medicine Tech I is responsible for basic sanitation/disinfection and maintenance of the animal facility, and for daily record-keeping and operation of major laboratory equipment. CM Tech I will perform general husbandry for laboratory animals related to cash wash, as well as being responsible for stocking inventory of PPE and supplies. CM Tech I is also responsible for sanitizing laboratory space, including animal holding rooms, cage wash areas and associated corridors as per federal, state and local guidelines and for autoclaving all equipment and keeping records for temperature for the autoclave and rack washer. CM Tech I will provide daily animal care to small animal species in the animal facility. Other duties may be required per management.</p><b><br>
Responsibilities</b><ul><li><div>
Provide animals with clean cages, water, and food. Identify functional caging equipment and reports equipment maintenance. Sanitize cages using washroom equipment. Removal of waste material such as bedding, trash etc.</div></li><li><div>
Ensure clean and operating equipment (racks and biological cabinets). Make adjustments to equipment as needed and make minor decisions in use of equipment. Understand the function of various equipment within facility (tunnel washer, rack washer, autoclave, bottle filler, etc.) to prevent damage or loss of time.</div></li><li><div>
Provide a clean and safe work environment. Report facility damage to supervisor.</div></li><li><div>
Maintain clean work area. Sanitize and disinfect cage wash, equipment and other facility areas. Identify, record, and report environmental conditions.</div></li><li><div>
Record and report issues to supervisor and/or veterinary staff. Comply with institutional certifications and requirements for working with infectious disease waste from BSL-2 and/or BSL-3 environment.</div></li><li><div>
Ability to follow detailed written instructions in performing routine work paying close attention to details. Record cage census as required.</div></li><li><div>

Under direct supervision of a licensed Nurse or other professional medical staff in a health care setting, performs a variety of clerical and health-related essential duties and responsibilities associated with patient care; performs related work.</p><p><b>

1. Checks vital signs, weighs, and measures patients, obtains specimens and records findings on patient&rsquo;s chart.</p><p>

19. Obtains blood specimens for laboratory testing by performing venipuncture and/or fingerstick testing.</p><p>
20. Operates electrocardiograph equipment to record electrical wave tracing of the electrical currents of the heart muscle.</p>

3. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).<br>

This position is an integral part of the health care setting service and the incumbent receives assignments from the appropriate employee in charge of patient and messenger escort, in accordance with the operational procedures determined by health care setting leadership. Transports patients to and from the Nursing Service and all other patient areas for specialized treatment and examinations as a primary function, but will also perform such other duties as required.</p><p><b>
Examples of Typical Tasks</b>:</p><p>
1. Obtains patient escort assignments and schedules from a designated Dispatcher/Supervisor, Service Department and reports to Nurse-in-Charge.</p><p>
2. Introduces self to patient, explains the nature of the trip, and escorts the patient to and from the Nursing Service to a designated area until someone else assumes responsibility for the patient or given another assignment by the Nursing Supervisor and reports back to the Dispatcher/Supervisor, Service Department.</p><p>
3. Transports patients by wheelchair, stretcher, bed or stretcher-bed, and escorts ambulatory patients, including those with intravenous apparatus to and from various nursing units, x-ray, scheduled therapies, various clinics, other diagnostic and therapeutic units, transfers, discharges, religious and recreation centers within the healthcare setting, accompany children to school within.</p><p>
4. Maintains control of patients&rsquo; charts and releases same only to authorized personnel.</p><p>
5. Maintains records of patient transport activities including the time a patient is picked-up, time of patient&rsquo;s arrival at a specified area and time of patient&rsquo;s return to the Nursing Service.</p><p>
6. Places patients in and out of wheelchair, stretcher, bed, and morgue tray and obtains assistance, if necessary. Positions patents on tables in such areas as x-ray, P.T., etc. and uses Hoyer lifters and other patient lifting devices.</p><p>
7. Escorts newly-admitted patients to designated areas in the health care setting complex and assists them in storing their luggage, packages, clothing and other items.</p><p>
8. Transports bodies and/or assists Mortuary Caretaker in transporting same to the mortuary and places in refrigerator and, when necessary, searches D.O.A.&rsquo;s, completes the required D.O.A.&rsquo;s reports, transports fetus, amputated parts or other specimen to morgue; delivers specimens, charts, x-rays, etc. to and from specified area (such as O.R., wards, laboratories, etc.).</p><p>
9. Responsible for the ready availability, upkeep and cleanliness of wheelchairs, stretchers, stretcher beds and morgue trays, sterilization of incoming patients&rsquo; clothing and other items, when required.</p><p>
10. Performs such other duties as are necessary, when assigned (e.g., collect and deliver regular and emergency requisitions for x-ray, electrocardiograph, basal metabolism, physiotherapy and other diagnostic tests and treatments, assists with transporting various equipment and supplies and other messenger assignment).</p>
