Role Summary:

In this role, you will lead a team of Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers. You will collaborate with multi-functional partners to build, develop, and deploy machine learning and data-driven solutions that improve customer and agent experiences. What You&rsquo;ll Do</b></p><ul><li>
Lead the design and implementation of scalable, reliable machine learning and AI solutions that empower Chewy&rsquo;s Customer Care teams.</li><li>
Partner with engineering, product, operations and enterprise teams to identify high-impact use cases and translate business needs into technical solutions.</li><li>
Lead all aspects of the full data science lifecycle, from data acquisition and feature engineering to model development, deployment, and performance monitoring.</li><li>
Implement best practices in experimentation, model validation, and continuous improvement, ensuring rigor and reproducibility.</li><li>
Ensure models are operationalized through strong MLOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, versioning, and automated retraining and data quality and governance standards are maintained across all projects.</li><li>
Mentor and develop Data Scientists &amp; Machine Learning Engineers, fostering technical excellence, scalable thinking, and innovation within the team.</li><li>
Guide project prioritization and resource allocation, balancing long-term innovation with near-term business needs.</li><li>
Communicate findings and recommendations to senior leaders through compelling narratives and data visualizations that drive strategic decisions.</li><li>
Stay ahead of emerging ML and AI techniques, particularly in NLP, LLMs, and generative AI, and evaluate their applicability to Chewy&rsquo;s business context.
</li></ul><p><b>What You&rsquo;ll Need</b></p><ul><li>
Master&rsquo;s degree (or Ph.D.) in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.</li><li>
5+ years of experience in data science or applied machine learning, including at least 2 years leading technical teams.</li><li>
Strong programming skills in Python or R, with experience in data manipulation and ML libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).</li><li>
Solid understanding of machine learning algorithms, statistical modeling, experimental design and MLOps.</li><li>
Hands-on exposure to LLMs and advanced NLP techniques, including fine-tuning, prompt optimization, and generative AI.</li><li>
Experience with SQL and data engineering concepts; familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).</li><li>
Familiarity with big data and analytics technologies (e.g., Spark, dbt, Iceberg, Redshift, Athena).</li><li>
Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Streamlit, Plotly).</li><li>

The base salary range for this role is $137,500 - $225,000.00.<ul><li><p>
The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate&rsquo;s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.</p></li></ul><p></p><p>

The US annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges from $145,500 to $242,500. The US salary ranges take into account a number of factors including work location within the US market, the candidate&rsquo;s skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role.
