Job Description:
The Bureau of Vital Statistics (BVS) is housed within the Center for Population Health Data Science. BVS registers, amends, processes, and analyzes all vital events in New York City while also issuing certified copies of certificates to the public. Vital events include births, deaths, and spontaneous and induced terminations of pregnancy. The position of Data Analyst reports to the Director of the Statistical Analysis &amp; Reporting Unit within the Office of Vital Statistics.
The Data Analyst will analyze these types of data for the purpose of publishing the Annual Summary of Vital Statistics on a timely basis, as well as producing data tables for the Provisional Birth &amp; Death Data page. Work related to the Annual Summary will include creating data tables, data visualizations, and updating text summary statements; the analyst will also perform data checks and may help with copy-editing of the Annual Summary. On an as-needed basis, the Data Analyst will help fulfill internal and external data requests; learn how to match vital event data with other datasets; coordinate projects (e.g., a variable standardization project); contribute to or lead research projects that are disseminated via internal presentations, local or national conferences, or peer-reviewed publications; respond to public health emergencies that require an agency-level response.
The selected candidate will be an employee of Public Health Solutions, a nonprofit organization which is the fiscal and administrative manager of the grant but will be supervised by DOHMH.

 The Position
 
 
 
 This hands-on Data Analyst position will reside within the Firm&rsquo;s Business Solutions &amp; Innovations department, where 20+ years of legacy technology and business processes are undergoing a complex and strategic overhaul, focused on efficiency, sustainability and providing a competitive industry advantage.
 
 
 
 Key Responsibilities:
 
 
 <ul>

 Create and maintain reporting processes to support firm stakeholders

 Develop an understanding and knowledge of databases supporting firm operation
 </li>
 <li>
 Utilize Power BI Analysis Services for data visualization and reporting
 </li>
 <li>
 Leverage Aderant Database &amp; Software for financial systems reporting
 </li>

 Perform initial analysis and refinement of data
 </li>

 Effectively communicate with internal/external resources
 </li>

 Respond to ad hoc data requests

 Effectively analyze, reverse engineer, and document legacy scripting routines

 Qualifications
 
 
 <ul>

 1-3 years of Experience in Financial Systems Administration
 </li>
 <li>
 1-3 years of recent Experience with Aderant Financial System
 </li>
 <li>
 Demonstrated Ability to Managing Data &amp; Performing Data Analysis
 </li>
 <li>
 Working Knowledge Power BI Analysis Services
 </li>
 <li>
 MS SQL/SSRS/SQL Query skills required
 </li>
 <li>
 Exceptional MS Excel understanding, ability to debug, and develop a must
 </li>

 VBA/Macro understanding and ability to debug are preferred skills&nbsp;
 </li>

 Familiar with using JIRA software or comparable software for project and task management
