What will you do?</h2>
Core Responsibilities and Key Performance Objectives<ul><li>
Investigate patterns and anomalies in LineVision sensor and weather data streams by formulating and testing your own data-driven hypotheses, and communicating results through clear, compelling visualizations</li><li>
Collaborate closely with our Colorado-based Atmospheric Science team to support weather forecasting initiatives, including validating wind model inputs and outputs against ground-truth observations from our network of field-deployed weather stations</li><li>
Support the analysis and visualization of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations, helping the team understand how terrain, vegetation, and atmospheric conditions shape wind flow along transmission corridors</li><li>
Build and improve internal tools that help the Data Science team scale repeatable analytics across our growing network of sensor installation sites</li><li>
Contribute to algorithmic improvements for detecting rare, weather-driven grid events such as conductor galloping and icing</li><li>
Work closely with Software Engineering and Data Engineering teams to help productionize data science findings and deliver results to customers following our rigorous change management process</li><li>
Communicate technical results to diverse audiences, from atmospheric scientists and data scientists to business stakeholders, adapting your explanations to different technical backgrounds</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
What do you need to succeed in this role?</h2><ul><li>
Strong Python programming skills and experience applying them to real problems</li><li>
Fluency with core data science tools: pandas, numpy, matplotlib, Jupyter notebooks</li><li>
Data analysis and statistical reasoning skills: can you tell a compelling story from noisy, high volume data?</li><li>
Scientific mindset: form hypotheses, validate results, and question unexpected outputs</li><li>
Strong communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences</li><li>
Comfort using AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, etc.) to accelerate development</li><li>
A genuine passion for environmental science, weather, or the physical world&mdash;we work at the intersection of climate, energy, and infrastructure</li><li>

This role is a great fit for physical science or engineering students looking to make a pivot into data science, or data science students with a background in physical or atmospheric science looking to break into clean energy technology.<h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
Work Schedule</h2>
The ideal candidate would be available for a minimum of 6 months, up to the full 8 month co-op term, working 40 hours a week. LineVision has a standard US holiday schedule, and up to a week of additional unpaid time off is permissible. Upon successful co-op completion, you will be considered for a full-time position upon graduation.

The Research and Organizational Change Management (OCM) Co Op will report to the Senior Director of Organizational Alignment and directly support the director and the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for MassDOT. The Administrative Office supports Fiscal, HR, IT, Property Services, and the Office of Real Estate and Economic Development at MassDOT and so, this position would indirectly support the department heads and senior staff of those departments. 
 
The Co Op will have the opportunity to help shape long-term strategy for the organization and how the administrative groups support MassDOT&rsquo;s operating divisions (Highway, RMV, Aeronautics, and Rail &amp; Transit). The Co Op will be exposed to a variety of work focused on how to shift organizational culture in service of long-term goals. The Co Op will take part in two major, ongoing change initiatives at MassDOT (among others): the implementation of departmental strategic plans (in alignment with MassDOT&rsquo;s upcoming Strategic Business Plan) and the Commonwealth-wide BEST Initiative which replaces legacy HR systems across the state and transforms many business processes along the way. <li>Intern / co-op staff must be enrolled full or part-time in an accredited educational program and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 for the entire duration of the internship / co-op. Additionally, interns / co-ops must have valid work authorization and U.S. Social Security Number prior to starting pre-employment screenings / pre-boarding, working in their positions, and throughout the duration of their program.</li>
