Responsibilities
1. These responsibilities may be carried out using the electronic medical record (EMR) system or manually as necessary.

3. Enters orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepares prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for the review and approval by the ordering physician.

4. Inventories, orders or re-stocks medical supplies as applicable.

5. Provides set-up of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques established by hospital and infection control policies.

6. Maintains logging system as required for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, crash cart or others as needed.

7. Checks expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies disposing appropriately as per institution policy.

8. Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and in compliance with legal regulations.

9. Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infections body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation and other hazardous substances.

10. Assists in the maintenance of medical charts (filing, Op Reports, test results, home care forms).

11. May schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients; preparing charts, pre-admissions and consent forms as necessary.

12. May be required to perform proficient phlebotomy duties.

13. May perform appointment scheduling and registration for patients as well as updating patient demographic and insurance information.

14. May maintain, adjust and confirm patient office schedule.

15. May check and verify &amp; update insurance information utilizing internal or web sources.

16. May perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary

17. Provides training and mentoring to Level I MA staff.

18. Directs and assigns MA schedules and work flow to meet the needs of the practice and applicable to patient volumes.

19. Oversee the successful delivery of clinical office support to meet the needs of each physician.

20. Performs other duties and tasks as required. 
Qualifications<ul>
<li>High School Diploma/GED with completion of Training Certificate from an approved Medical Assistant certificate course. Certified Medical Assistant preferred.</li>

In this role, the successful candidate The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians and/or Advanced Care Practitioners and nurses in providing patient care. <ul><li>Assists with inbasket message management including any necessary tasks related to patient medical advice requests as per best practices</li><li>Utilizes EPIC functionality to review and update patient records as well as maintain communication with peers and supervisors related to patient care</li><li>Assists physicians with procedure and/or set-up according to the specialty where necessary</li><li>Stocks exam/treatment rooms and/or supply closets with medical supplies, linen and medical equipment as needed. Effectively communicates as supplies need to be replenished.</li><li>Cleans and sterilizes designated equipment after use, , following organizational policy &amp; guidelines, and with documentation of required competency in place.</li><li>Supports FGP Clinical Quality Management by facilitating appropriate documentation and maintenance of clinical supplies and equipment.</li><li>Reviews appropriate downtime procedures as it relates to patient visit</li><li>Completes annual competencies such as Fire Safety, Hazardous Waste, Medsled, HIPPA compliance, etc.</li><li>Partners with administrative and clinical personnel to complete prior authorization, medication refills and referrals related to patient continuity of care.</li><li>Assists with prescription refill request by locating requested prescription in EMR, identifying last patient visit, and tasking RN, LPN, or Provider to evaluate, set up and/or process for renewal</li><li>Accompanies physician into exam room and transcribes history, including history of present illness, past medical and surgical history, family and social histories, medications and allergies, physical exam, laboratory and radiologic orders as dictated by the MD and document accurately the physician's encounter with the patient.</li><li>List all proper diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the physician.</li><li>Documents patient orders including laboratory tests, radiology tests, medications, etc.</li><li>Performs other duties as assigned.</li></ul>

Minimum Qualifications: 
To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or the equivalent. Completion of a Medical Assistant Program from an accredited institution OR upon hire hold a current medical assistant Certification from a Nationally Recognized accredited institution (such as American Association of Medical Assistant(AAMA); American Medical Technologies (AMT); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); National Healthcare Association (NHA)). Competencies: Working knowledge of English is evident in verbal, reading and writing abilities; other language an asset; demonstrated ability in computer skills. Ability to complete multiple tasks efficiently and thrive in a team work environment which pursues a positive patient care experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 
MA experience preferred. EKG, phlebotomy and venipuncture experience preferred.

Temporary/Per Diem Medical Assistant - In House Temporary Program (Full Time Coverage, As Needed)

<div>Description
The Health Information Associate is responsible for performing clerical duties in various units within the department. The primary functions include but are not limited to sorting and scanning loose reports, manual upload to the medical center&rsquo;s imaged documents repository of documents scanned by outside vendors and the quality review of scanned images. 
Responsibilities
1. Receives and accounts for records of discharge patients from all units (including inpatient, outpatient surgery) on a daily basis.

2. Reconciles receipt of loose work from all clinical areas within the hospital and reports to Supervisor issues regarding timely receipt.

3. Prepares records for scanning by grouping like document types together; places in page and date order; removes COLD fed documents from each record (i.e. transcribed reports, laboratory reports or radiology reports may be COLD depending on site); preparing all documents by removing staples, paper clips, sticky notes and rubber bands; removes unapproved/denial forms for further review; checks each patient record for poor originals and stamps with poor original stamp. In addition, copies all damaged documents so that they can go through the scanning process without difficulty; removes all color graphs, photographs and other difficult to scan documents from patient record by ensuring that the patient name, encounter number and medical record number are documented on photograph cover sheet. Replaces aforementioned documents with photograph cover sheet. Places original documents in designated folder and in designated location for scanning and according to procedure.

4. Prepares batch by placing batch cover sheet on each batch and placing rubber band around batch. According to procedure, creates a batch for inpatient and outpatient record.

5. According to set procedure, prepares loose reports for scanning, in addition; creates loose report batch of appropriate size.

6. Ensure optimal image results by keeping track of scanner maintenance. According to instructions maintains scanner on a weekly basis and provides general maintenance.

7. Retrieves records from scanning shelf and performs scanning process according to procedure and established timeframe

8. Verifies that each batch has been prepped appropriately, removes documents that cannot be scanned and removes staples, paperclips, decides which errors to correct and when to return work to be corrected.

9. Performs indexing process with accuracy by ensuring that each document is indexed to the correct patient/encounter and/or document type.

10. Assigns a batch label according to procedure.

11. Ensures the scanned medical records are an accurate reflection of the original paper medical record.

12. Ensure errors that occur during the scanning process are corrected.

13. Prepares &ldquo;final&rdquo; scanned documents for storage and maintains active/electronic log to facilitate quick retrieval and access of information.

14. Reviews assigned work queue(s) daily and ensures timely processing of all assignments in the queues.

15. Cross trains to perform all clerical functions within HIM

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Chief Advanced Practice Provider, the Physician Assistant will provide services primarily to the Emergency Medicine Department at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, with occasional shifts at the Allen Hospital and/or NYP, Westchester. Individual will perform a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and outcome evaluation of patients. Individual will also participate in performance improvement, research and educational activities. Day, evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts are required.

Responsibilities

<li><ul><li>Obtain patients' history, perform physical examinations, order and evaluate appropriate laboratory, radiographic and electrocardiographic studies.</li>

<li>Assist in the management of medical and surgical emergencies.</li>
