Job Description

The Patient Care Technician&rsquo;s primary function is to assist and support the Professional Registered Nurse in all aspects of direct and indirect patient care activities. The Patient Care Technician functions as a member of the unit staff under the direction and supervision of the professional Registered Nurse.

Provides newborn care to the infant including bath, dressing, obtaining foot prints, assistance with feeding (bottle and breast), glucose checks.</li><li>
Makes occupied and unoccupied beds.</li><li>
Ambulates patients and instructs on walker, cane and crutch walking as appropriate for assigned unit.</li><li>
Assists with pre-and post-operative care; positions patients as ordered; applies special equipment for safety; lifts and turns patients with proper and safe body mechanics and available resources.</li><li>
Applies comfort and safety measures (side rails and call lights).</li><li>
Sets up oxygen and suction equipment and other respiratory equipment for adults and/or neonates.</li><li>
Applies dressings to Stage I and Stage II skin breakdown.</li><li>
Prepares patient room for MD or RN assessment, evaluation, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Assists with procedures in the normal newborn nursery as directed.</li><li>
Transports patients, equipment and/or supplies during urgent and emergent situations and to front door on discharge.</li><li>
Responds to emergency situations, secures assistance and initiates basic life support.</li><li>
Reports observations and documents appropriately. Promptly notifies RN of any change in patient condition.</li><li>
Performs post-mortem care and transports bodies to the morgue when necessary.</li><li>

Qualifications

5. Performs registration functions consistent with Federal, State and Local regulatory agencies and payer requirements, and organizational policies and procedures, including HIPAA privacy and security Regulations, as well as JACHO.
 
6. Upon decision of patient&rsquo;s admission, has the knowledge and skill to perform the admission notification (NOA) process which is a required communication with the patient&rsquo;s payer to ensure that the payment for patient&rsquo;s inpatient stay is secured.
 
7. Appropriately informs the patients of hospital policies that govern the revenue cycle. Minimizes the potential financial risk of patients accounts by discussing with the patient and/or guarantor their financial responsibility for upcoming visits/procedures, past due balances and referral requirements. Offers options and negotiates acceptable resolution of estimated patient balance.
 
8. Receives and properly responds to, or directs telephone inquiries from patients, payers, physicians and their staff, internal department and other persons and entities.
 
9.. Ability to exercise good customer service skills when communicating with both our patients as well as our internal customers. Able to find resolution within the phone interaction satisfactory to the caller and/or having the knowledge when to escalate to their supervisor.
 
10. Interacts and collaborates with numerous departments to resolve issues while also analyzing necessary information that will ensure hospital reimbursement.
 
11.
