<p>
The LAA is responsible for producing a variety of work product related to the attorney/client interaction. Work product includes, but is not limited to, the production of documents; the management of time entry; coordination and facilitation of travel plans, meetings, electronic and face-to-face communications; handling of incoming and outgoing mail and other correspondence; expense entry; and file maintenance. The LAA must be able to work effectively with a variety of law firm members, including numerous lawyers, paralegals, and staff members. In all situations, it is expected that the LAA will maintain the highest levels of respect, confidentiality and professionalism in the execution of the responsibilities.</p>
<p>
This position reports to the LAA Supervisor/Office Manager; on a day to day basis, works under the direction of the attorneys and paralegals to whom the Legal Administrative Assistant (LAA) is assigned. LAAs assigned to an LAA Team will report to the LAA Team Supervisor when a Supervisor is part of that Team&rsquo;s structure.</p>

<li>Prepares and processes new matter forms.</li>
<li>Receives and clients and visitors.</li>

<b>BASIC FUNCTIONS:</b><br>
Assist with and provide support for American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advocacy efforts to Congress, regulatory, and judicial bodies and to other advocacy groups. Monitor and report on legislative and regulatory activities within the legislative portfolio. Provide staff support to AAP chapters, committees, councils, and sections on advocacy issues, including attending committee and other AAP meetings as required. Represent the AAP at meetings with various interest groups, task forces, and child and health care coalitions.

<b>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</b><br>
1. Advance federal policy related to issues affecting infants, children, adolescents, young adults, and pediatricians.
<br><br>
2. Draft written materials to Congress, regulatory agencies, and AAP committees. Support the engagement of AAP committees, councils, and sections in legislative and regulatory activities within the legislative issues portfolio.
<br><br>
3. Proactively monitor and provide information on legislative and regulatory proposals to the Director and other AAP staff, as appropriate. Compile background information on issues within legislative portfolio, including summaries, side-by-side comparisons and analyses of different proposals, and any other appropriate information. Attend hearings and write reports. Conduct on-line research through congress.gov and regulatory websites. Read and report on activities in the Federal Register.

4. Assist with AAP advocacy efforts before Congress and regulatory agencies. Attend meetings with Congressional and agency staff on AAP issues as assigned. With Director, develop advocacy strategies on AAP legislative and regulatory priorities. Assist Director with implementation of policy strategy.

5. Represent the AAP at selected regulatory government advisory committee meetings and support pediatricians appointed to such committees, and report on advisory committee activities, reports and initiatives as appropriate. Serve as the point of contact for AAP federal advocacy grant programs, organize meetings, prepare meeting agendas, and record minutes. Develop reports on funding and project status.

6. Assist in the tracking and processing of grant-related contracts, expenses, and reimbursements.

7. Conduct outreach to partner organizations to coordinate coalition efforts on legislative issues, including attending relevant coalition meetings as AAP representative and reporting on the details of coalition discussions and strategy.

8. Assist Director with drafting and editing testimony, correspondence, legislative amendments, floor statements, and responses to regulatory rule making, background papers, legislative reports, memoranda, and fact sheets.

9. Track and report on the team’s progress across projects to ensure their timely completion.

10. Working with the Director, assist AAP membership with understanding legislative process and answering inquiries on AAP policy and child health issues.

<b>EDUCATION:</b><br>

A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $70,368.96 - $74,278.36.
