<div>We seek a talented, energetic, and collaborative Molecular Modeling Scientist to conduct both routine and novel analyses as part of our flagship platform A3D3a: Adaptive, AI-augmented, Drug Discovery and Development. With experience in structural prediction, comparative modeling, and emerging generative models, the Molecular Modeling Scientist will contribute to the discovery of novel cancer therapeutics as part of A3D3a. 
 
Led by Prof. Bissan Al-Lazikani, Director of Therapeutics Data Science, the intelligent and ever-learning A3D3a platform is part of MD Anderson's Therapeutics Data Science initiative and part of our ambitious Institute for Data Science in Oncology. A3D3a will accelerate the discovery and impact of novel therapies for cancer by enabling novel opportunities for optimized therapies for patients with a focus on rare and hard-to-treat cancers through the development of novel machine learning and AI technologies. 
 
Central to this vision, the Molecular Modeling Scientist will leverage state-of-the-art macromolecular modeling techniques and, collaboratively with senior scientists, develop innovative data science approaches to answer structural questions about and nominate therapeutic targets. Additionally, physics-based modeling may also compliment structural informatics and generative AI efforts. The preferred candidate should have at least an MSc in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Computer Science, or a related field. A strong background in computational modeling and a willingness to learn new approaches is critical to this role. 
 
The ideal candidate will be an experienced computational scientist with strong Python-based scientific computing skills and expertise in cheminformatics, generative AI, and molecular modeling-capable of building predictive ML models, generating and analyzing macromolecular structures, leveraging tools such as PyTorch, Modeller, Rosetta, and MD packages, and contributing effectively to multidisciplinary research through rigorous documentation, scientific communication, and efficient project management.

GenAI and LLMs are being explored, but they are not mature yet and not the main focus of the role today.
 
 
 &bull; The team is currently working with KumoAI (recommendation software). They are building systems around inventory forecasting and vendor recommendation, and want to take those solutions further. Inventory planning is a key business problem they&rsquo;ve already solved once and are now enhancing with more advanced ML and deep learning approaches.
 
 
 &bull; They are looking for someone who has hands-on experience building different types of forecasting models and machine learning models in Python, not someone who only consumes models or uses black-box solutions. This position will work closely with the research team, study participants, and healthcare professionals to ensure the smooth and ethical execution of research projects. This may be a unique opportunity for someone who has completed medical school and is strengthening their CV in preparation for residency applications. Skills such as strong clinical knowledge, attention to detail, critical thinking, and interest in research are preferred.

Position Summary:
Under close direction of senior research staff, conducts activities to support research projects.
Position Key Accountabilities:<ul><li>
Under close supervision, conducts research activities according to research protocol. Research activities may include some or all of the following: patient recruiting and screening, traditional laboratory experiments and activities, informatics, field interviewer recruiting, screening and training and/or animal laboratories.</li><li>
May maintain clean laboratory equipment and/or work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.</li><li>
Collects, evaluates, and interprets research data to provide needed information to principal investigators and other researchers. Updates notebooks, records, and databases as needed.</li><li>
Stays abreast of new and updated protocols for research department.</li><li>
Orders laboratory and/or other supplies as directed by senior research staff.</li><li>
As needed, may coordinate the work of laboratory technicians and assistants to ensure efficient, timely and high quality results.</li><li>
Complies with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulations, and codes.</li><li>
Performs other duties as assigned.</li></ul> 
Certification/Skills:
General knowledge of research fields.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor&rsquo;s degree or relevant experience in lieu of education.
Minimum Experience:
No years of experience.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds constantly and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects. 
This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
Security Sensitive:
This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code &sect;51.215 and Texas Government Code &sect;411.094.
