<p><b>The Ortho Trauma General Surgery Unit</b> is a 32-bed acute care surgical inpatient unit with telemetry monitoring that provides care to primarily orthopedic, ortho-spine, trauma, and general surgery patients. Common diagnoses and surgical procedures include the following: open reductions, external fixation applications, intermedullary nail insertions, joint replacements, laminectomies, spinal fusions, post-motor vehicle accident with multiple traumas, post-violent crimes, spinal cord tumors, small bowel obstructions, and abscess irrigation and debridement. Most patients admitted are transferred from intensive care units, post-anesthesia care units, and the emergency room. This is a fast-paced environment rich with many opportunities for learning. It uses a multidisciplinary approach to patient care that promotes teamwork between physicians, nursing staff, care management, therapy, and a variety of other disciplines to provide the most comprehensive care to their patients. <p>The <b>Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS)</b> facilitates the improvement in the overall quality and completeness of concurrent medical record documentation to help achieve accurate inpatient coding, APR-DRG assignment and severity and risk of mortality levels. This role obtains appropriate documentation through interactions with physicians and staff. In this role, the CDS is responsible for medical record review, collaboration with professional inpatient coding professionals, reconciliations of assigned cases and the accurate reporting of CDI program metrics. </p><p><b>Education:</b></p>

Requires successful completion of:</p>
<ul>
<li>Baccalaureate degree, or associates degree, or diploma in nursing from an accredited school of Nursing <b>OR</b></li>
<li>Successful completion of an AMA approved Physician Assistant program, <b>OR</b></li>
<li>Successful completion of the academic requirements of Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM<b>)</b></li>

Performs a variety of assigned clerical and patient care duties essential to the daily operations of the assigned department. Duties may vary by department and/or site and may include: patient registration patient scheduling coordinating the physician order re-certification process insurance verification and coordination of services for patients charge entry and reconciliation functions and co-payment and daily cash receipt responsibilities. The Office Assistant II will assist with medical record operations on a daily basis greets registers and escorts patients completes patient set-ups turns over patient rooms and ensures that the exam room is properly cleaned and prepped. He/she will perform other patient care duties determined by the therapist or physician edits and distributes clinical dictations orders and maintains clinical and administrative supplies creates patient registration packets for patients and/or billing department and provides front office and call center coverage and assistance.<p><b>
Primary Duties and Responsibilities</b></p><br>

Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.</li><li>
Greets and assists patients on the telephone and in person by triaging patient inquiries and concerns to appropriate clinical and non-clinical team members. Promptly answers assigned extensions using the correct salutation and follows script and completes patient reminder calls processes and procedures as assigned.</li><li>
