<ul><li>Obtain test results using the MDACC computer system, which requires comprehension and problem-solving skills</li></ul>

<ul><li>Dictate or manually transcribe a patient note. This task requires a clear, audible voice, and a good command of the English language as well as clear and legible penmanship.</li></ul> 
<ul><li>Perform minor surgical procedures which may include wound debridement, suture/staple removal, drain placement or removal, seroma evacuation, biopsies, and other procedures as delegated by the supervising physician.</li></ul> 
<ul><li>Manage pre-operative and post-operative patients in coordination with the faculty supervising physician and Breast Surgical Fellows. An in-depth understanding of the pathophysiology of both cancer as well as the surgical process and wound healing is necessary.</li></ul> 
<ul><li>Provide patient education. Patient education requires good interpersonal skills and a working knowledge of surgical oncology.</li></ul> 
<ul><li>Coordinate patient care with the multidisciplinary team to include but not limited to Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APP) from other hospital services, Nurses, Case Managers, Social Workers, Physical Therapists, Pharmacists, Respiratory Therapists and other Allied Health Support team members involved in the patient's care.</li></ul> 
o Perform routine patient care, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as starting IV's venipuncture, administering PO/IV/IM meds. 
 
o Participation in the education of students including medical, physician assistant, nursing and allied health, etc. Requires the ability to communicate effectively and to give clear verbal instructions.

Job Summary and Qualifications</h5><h6 class="jobSectionHeader">
The Senior Research Nurse offers a significant contribution to the development of processes, tools, and training necessary to maintain site compliance and patient safety. The nurse in this role is responsible for coordinating multiple research protocols; serving as a liaison with local investigators and local research personnel; and acting as a central resource for assigned research projects.
Job Duties:
<ul><li>Complete study medication order forms accurately, when needed, and has physician or appropriate designee sign orders prior to medication administration</li><li>
Oversee and manages routine operational activities for multiple research protocols</li><li>
Liaise between site research personnel, industry sponsors, and Supervisor</li><li>
Collaborate closely with various site departments/teams, including finance, relevant hospital administrative representatives, and the local IRB, if applicable</li><li>
Review proposed budgets for adequate coverage and recommends changes to Supervisor
</li><li>Coordinate protocol schedule of assessments from initial submission of feasibility until study closeout
</li><li>Coordinate submission and approval for the Site&rsquo;s Facility Review Committee, if applicable
</li><li>Provide instruction on research protocols to appropriate staff, including interpretation of test results, observations, and related study data to physicians, nurses, and clinical staff
</li><li>Assess the patient and document findings at each clinic visit while on protocol
</li><li>Document all specific tasks required by the protocol (i.e. medication forms, quality of life questionnaires, neuro exams, vital signs sheets, times of lab draws, etc.)
</li><li>Complete the study medication order form accurately and have the physician or nurse practitioner sign orders prior to treatment</li><li>
Ensure that all medications are approved by the appropriate designee prior to initiating treatment or when changing medication regimens
</li><li>Accurately calculate and document the BSA, creatinine, STS calculation, or any other conversions needed, per protocol
</li><li>Document any interaction regarding the patient that occurs while the patient is enrolled on a protocol, including follow-up and survival (this includes home health intervention, pharmacies, and patient phone calls)</li><li>
Ensure that follow-up appointments, imaging, or any related procedures are scheduled correctly according to protocol requirements</li><li>
Accurately complete all data requests (including queries) and submit with source documentation within the timeframe specified in the SOP</li><li>
Re-consent patients in a timely manner and document process appropriately Site Development</li><li>
Work with site personnel and local investigators to assess site feasibility and performance
</li><li>Regularly meet with physicians and administrators, when applicable, to assess study performance and investigator satisfaction
