New York, Onsite 5 days a week</p><p></p><p>
JAX | NYSCF&rsquo;s Type 1 Diabetes team is seeking a Research Assistant III. Reporting to a Principal Scientist, you will work closely with other members of the JAX | NYSCF Research Institute, including stem cell biologists, automation engineers, software developers, bioinformatics, and operations. In this role you will help support several ongoing projects, performing cell culturing and differentiation to contribute to the overall goals of the Type 1 Diabetes team.</p><p></p><p>
The ideal candidate is self-motivated and ambitious with a strong interest in Type 1 Diabetes, immunology, and stem cell research. They will have hands-on experience with a variety of laboratory techniques, including pluripotent stem cell cultures and the execution of <i>in vitro</i> immunological assays; and comfortable or have experience with small animal handling. Training is provided for those without experience.</p><p></p><p><b>
What you&rsquo;ll do</b></p><ul><li>
Perform cell culture to support ongoing projects (including stem cell culture and differentiation).</li><li>
Perform flow cytometry and immunostaining.</li><li>
Perform in vivo work with mice, including SQ/IP injections, blood collection, intraperitoneal procedures, and tissue harvest.</li><li>
Work with project lead to establish and execute immunological assays.
</li><li>Perform ELISA, and ELISPOT assays.</li><li>
Analyze data and maintain extremely organized and accurate records using an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN).</li><li>
Create routine scientific presentations and reports.</li><li>
Work with the Lab Operations team to ensure reagents and consumables inventory is accurately and efficiently supplied.</li><li>

What we&rsquo;re looking for</b></p><ul><li>
BSc/BA +6 years of academic or industry experience in Biology or relevant scientific discipline; MSc is a plus.</li><li>
Experience with mammalian cell culture outside of coursework labs (experience with iPSC/hESC is highly desired).</li><li>
Advanced mouse handling and husbandry skills preferred.</li><li>
Experience with flow cytometry and immunostaining.</li><li>
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.</li><li>
Proficiency in both Mac and PC computer environments (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Electronic Lab Notebooks).</li><li>

Responsibilities</b><p>
Details of Research Project:</p><p>
Dr. Pe&ntilde;a&rsquo;s proposed research will further build upon and enhance the Filizola lab&rsquo;s research program aimed at elucidating membrane protein structures and dynamics for the purpose of drug discovery. His work will contribute to deepening mechanistic understanding of signaling processes through advanced computational approaches. Key responsibilities will include: (a) Conducting enhanced molecular dynamics simulations to probe membrane protein structures, conformational dynamics, and activation pathways; (b) Designing, developing, and applying innovative computational methods that advance the lab&rsquo;s research goals and guide experimental strategies; (c) Performing rigorous analysis and interpretation of complex simulation and experimental datasets to extract mechanistic insights into membrane protein signaling and activation; (d) Generating high-quality preliminary data in support of grant applications and contributing to the preparation of manuscripts for submission to high-impact peer-reviewed journals; and (e) Collaborating closely with lab members, mentoring graduate trainees, and fostering an inclusive and supportive research environment that encourages intellectual development and teamwork.</p><p></p><p><br>

Minimum Qualifications</b></p><p><br>

2. An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college, and 18 months of satisfactory, full-time professional experience as described in &ldquo;1&rdquo; above; or

3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and two and one-half years of satisfactory full time professional experience as described in &ldquo;1&rdquo; above; or
<br>
