</div><p></p><p>Working with higher graded staff, participates in and supports the development of all phases of exhibitions from planning and conceptualization through production and installation. Serves as a member of cross-functional teams of subject matter experts, educators and experienced designers. Performs research and analysis of assigned areas; assembles information and documentation; serves as a liaison to other offices and coordinates work of team members; and provides information to members.</p>
<p>
Performs primary and secondary research in Library and other collections, drawing on scholarly work or advice of curators or outside advisors to develop the exhibition story and content. Identifies and selects or recommends artifacts in collaboration with scholars and subject authorities; conducts assigned copyright research and documents results.</p>
<p>
Manages phases of exhibit production and installation for both onsite and online exhibitions. Participates in the development of schedules and proposed budgets for projects, gathering information in areas such as market research, cost analyses, or logistics requirements. As assigned, monitors progress of projects; identifies potential issues and recommends solutions in routine situations.</p>
<p>
Prepares documentation for products and services to be provided by contractors; assembles information for and prepares requests for contract resources and pre-award documents such as statements of work or cost estimates. Provides oversight of contractors.</p>
<p>
Develops methods for communicating exhibition content and messaging to key internal and external stakeholders to promote the exhibition and to support the development of related programming and materials.</p>
<p>
Supports the Director, CEI and Development Office in fundraising for Library exhibitions. Prepares fund raising proposals, including text, visuals, and projected budgets; provides input for presentations to donors and potential funders as needed.</p>

</div><p></p><p>Incumbent has broad range responsibilities receiving policy guidance and work guidelines in terms of program initiatives. Job evaluation is largely in terms of work accomplished, especially where uniquely different or sensitive projects are involved. Completed work is reviewed in terms of effectiveness in goal achievement and soundness of overall approach, conformance with controlling management policies, thoroughness, timeliness and quality of results.</p>

Contacts the Government Printing Office (GPO) and outside printing contract firms that do work for the agency. Deals with these production organizations on the specifications, scheduling, and acceptability of individual printing jobs.</p>
<p>
Determines the printing specifications and procurement details (including estimates of the costs) for printing requests generated in the office. Fills in the printing orders with details for every printing and binding service involved, and maintains records of every order the office places over time as an institutional memory useful in shaping further orders for the same materials, in tracking the performance of particular printing suppliers, in troubleshooting particular orders, and in tracking costs over time.</p>
<p>
Provides technical guidance and advice to program operating officials in the planning stages of printing projects on matters relating to cost effectiveness; interpretations of regulations and policies; development of print formats, ink, paper, binding styles, and materials preparation of detailed production specifications for a wide variety of complex publications and periodicals. Assists program personnel in the preparation and planning for production of publications.</p>
<p>
Estimates cost of individual printing jobs and reviews invoices to determine accuracy of charges. Refers discrepancies to the Printing Officer for resolution.</p>
<p>
Reviews requisition, print order, term contract specifications, and materials submitted for printing and duplicating for compliance with established laws and applicable federal and agency regulations.</p>
<p>
For unusual printing requests, such as emergency requests or specialty items that need special handling, estimates printing steps and costs, contracts the GPO or designated contract printing firms, contacts the procurement officers of the agency, and advises the supervisor whether the proposed printing procurement is technically or financially feasible.</p>
<p>
Inspects printed products upon receipt; informs the Printing Officer if products fall short of specifications and are unsatisfactory; and deals with the GPO or contract printing firms to have unsatisfactory work redone or to negotiate refunds as necessary.</p>
<p>
Under the guidance of the Printing Officer, continually monitors the status of all work orders and maintains supplies, inventory, production control charts, and records designed to keep jobs up to date and to meet production schedules; tracking involves both manual and automated systems. Assures that work flows properly through the stages of production: from concept to design to printing to bindery to delivery and finish of operations.</p>

</div><p></p><p>Receives/accessions, sorts and arranges a variety of more complex material, following established procedures, guidelines, and standards of the division and utilizing knowledge of the division's collections, subject and/or language areas.</p>

Determines the status of material received in the division in relation to the division's other collections by examining them (a) for acceptability with respect to physical condition, completeness and conformity with Library policies, (b) to determine proper custody, referring them to other division of the Library when appropriate, and (c) to identify rare items, items requiring special attention, and items of possible value as reference or processing aids.</p>
<p>
Participates in preparing collection proposals, establishing priorities, and writing work/processing plans which includes surveying a collection, determining its informational content, formats, physical condition, and organization.</p>
<p>
Prepares material for use/storage. Such preparation includes, but is not limited to, recommending appropriate measures, performing specialized preservation and phased conservation tasks, filing, housing, labeling, and shelving the material. Maintains records and writes reports on processing activities.</p>
<p>
Undertakes special projects, surveys, or studies to identify and resolve problems relating to the collections or processing activities. Maintains records and writes reports on special project activities.</p>
<p>
Identifies, removes, de-accessions and assembles duplicate and extraneous material for disposition or transfer to the appropriate Library division or external repository, as necessary.</p>
<p>
Performs more complex collections maintenance activities on a variety of material in various stages of preservation, including, but not limited to, transferring material from off-site storage, replacing worn housing and containing, reboxing, relabeling, marking for identification and security, shelving, shelf reading, and collection shifting.</p>
<p>
Organizes and prepares more complex material for reformatting (e.g., microfilming or digital scanning). Such preparation includes, but is not limited to, counting and marking pages and items, noting missing material, preparing targets, headers, and finding aids, recording and preparing material for transfer to the appropriate duplication service, and comparing completed copies against original material.</p>

Performs more complex manual and automated searches in multiple systems.</p>
