The Circulation and Reference Assistant staffs the circulation desk and reference service points; answers phones; performs circulation duties, such as checking books and materials in and out, pulling holds, checking missing lists, calling patrons when holds come in; answers directional questions and refers reference questions to the reference desk; troubleshoots, maintains, and assists with the operation of PCs, printers, copiers, and scanners; helps with shelving and shelf maintenance, including shelf reading, weeding, and shifting of books; participates in professional development and training opportunities; performs other job-related duties as assigned; provides reference assistance by interviewing patrons to determine their information needs and instructing them on how and where to find and use needed resources, including the online catalog, electronic resources, and the Internet; records and maintains reference statistics; understands, applies, and explains library and college policies and procedures; assists with special projects.</div>
