Job Summary and Qualifications</h5>
Under the general supervision of the Cath Lab Manager/Designee and the general direction of the medical staff the Cardiac Cath Lab Lead Technician is responsible for professional patient care and related assistance to patients experiencing cardiac intervention upon admission to the department. The Cath Lab Technician Lead utilizes the patient care process in ensuring safe and competent quality patient care. The Cath Lab Lead Technician in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory supports the medical care of all patient requiring any cardiac or peripheral intervention under the direction of the medical staff pursuant to the mission and objectives of the hospital. This person ensures a safe environment for the patient and others, appropriately communicates with physicians, co-workers, volunteers, other hospital departments and patient family members. The Cath Lab Technician lead acts to provide care in a competent, effective and cost effective manner.
What you will do in this role:<ul><li>
Identifies and documents patients, family and significant other education needs in collaboration with other disciplines and participates in on-going education.</li><li>
Always acts in the best interests of the patient and their family considering medical problems and treatment precautions. Performs only neurodiagnostic tests that are permitted by the American Society of Electron euro-diagnostic Technologists.</li><li>
Observes all precautions when treating medically compromised patients</li><li>
Quickly and appropriately responds to fire alarms by serving as a member of &ldquo;fire brigade&rdquo;.</li><li>
Maintains an orderly and safe work area.</li><li>
Demonstrates accuracy in the assessment, evaluation and treatment of the patients upon physician orders</li><li>
Considers patient/family goals, home environment, learning needs and support system during evaluation</li><li>
Determines the patient&rsquo;s mental age, mental state and comprehension level.</li><li>
Provides patient care based upon the patient&rsquo;s condition, needs, medical assessment and evaluation.</li><li>
Explain all test procedures including activation procedures, electrode application method (paste, collodion, etc.) to patient/family or significant other.</li><li>

 Prepares anesthesia machine and cart with required supplies prior to each case; assists in maintaining anesthesia and monitoring equipment/ancillary devices, warmers (fluid &amp; patient), accuracy and/or the adjustment or exchange of monitors, ventilators and gas cylinders as indicated.

 Demonstrates an ability to recognize specialty needs and anticipate preparation and follow-up i.e. CJD, MH, Airborne-TB, Latex sensitivity and Laser cases.
 </li>
 <li>
 Demonstrates the ability to assist with endotracheal intubation and extubation procedures during routine and emergency procedures.
 </li>
 <li>
 Performs inventory; orders and restocks anesthesia medications, trays and supplies; restocks anesthesia carts according to established protocol; cleans and restocks anesthesia machines, cart, supply rooms, shelves, and refrigerators as required; transports anesthesia equipment/supplies to other departments as needed.
 </li>

 Ensures clean to dirty sanitation/containment and standard infection control precautions and professional performance. This includes but not limited to: vigilant sterile technique and care with invasive lines, facilitate/assist anesthesiologist in following CDC guidelines for Central Line Placement-Deterring CRBSI Catheter-related blood stream infections, disinfection and high level disinfection of semi-critical items and care of flexible scopes and specialty instrumentation.

 Actively participates in Quality Assurance and associated documentation.

 Other duties may be carried as patient care dictates, such as but not limited to: patient hair removal, blood product &amp; blood cooler transport, patient transport, anesthetized patient positioning within national safety goals and MHHS RED Rules and Surgical Safety Checklist.
