<p><b>Position Description: </b>The Multi-Jurisdiction Bureau is seeking a Deputy Supervisor in its Complex Narcotics Unit to direct felony Assistant State&rsquo;s Attorney&rsquo;s vertically prosecuting complex narcotic and gun related crimes. The Deputy Supervisor will work with ASAs to collaborate and build relationships with law enforcement departments at the local, state, and federal levels, and will coordinate with other prosecutors&rsquo; offices as appropriate, including the US Attorney&rsquo;s Office, the Illinois Attorney General, and collar county state&rsquo;s attorney&rsquo;s offices. The Deputy Supervisor will directly supervise ASAs working in a vertical prosecution model, evaluating evidence from investigations, making charging recommendations, indicting the cases before the grand jury, negotiating resolutions, preparing and executing bench and jury trials, and handling sentencing hearings.
</p><p><b>Environment &amp; Reporting Structure</b>: The ASA will report directly to the Supervisor of the Enhanced Drug and Gun Enforcement Division (EDGE), which falls under the Multi-Jurisdiction Bureau.
</p><p><b>Duties/Requirements</b>: The Deputy Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Supervisor of the Enhanced Drug and Gun Enforcement Division (EDGE) with the oversight of the Complex Narcotics Unit and must ensure that cases, from inception to disposition, are prosecuted fairly and handled properly, and that the ASAs are correctly trained in all aspects of their job.</p>
<p>The Deputy Supervisor is responsible for collaborating with the Supervisor to coordinate formal and informal training of the ASAs in conjunction with the CCSAO Director of Training and the Multi-Jurisdiction Bureau Chief and Deputy Bureau Chief and must engage in daily supervision, education and mentoring of the ASAs assigned to the Complex Narcotic Unit.</p>
<p>The Deputy Supervisor stands ready to consult with the Felony Review Unit and local, state, and federal law enforcement partners on investigations, and is involved with charging decisions made on various complex narcotics cases and other significant cases that will be prosecuted by the Complex Narcotics Unit.</p>
<p>The Deputy Supervisor must be aware of significant litigation handled by the Complex Narcotics Unit and will regularly consult with the Supervisor and the ASAs on those matters, when needed.</p>
<p>The Deputy Supervisor shall work with the Grants &amp; Development Unit to create grant programs for the Complex Narcotics Unit. The Deputy Supervisor is responsible for collecting data and drafting grant reports to demonstrate compliance with program objectives.
</p><p>The Deputy Supervisor shall, whenever practical, accompany the Supervisor to meetings held with relevant law enforcement partners, and participate in law enforcement training sessions.</p>
<p>The Deputy Supervisor aids the Supervisor in all aspects of his/her duties, and shall be assigned additional responsibilities by the Supervisor as is necessary to carry out the work of the Complex Narcotics Unit.</p>
<p>The Deputy Supervisor is required to occasionally work First Appearance Court on weekends and or holidays.<b> The Deputy Supervisor shall be an effective advocate and emissary of the mission, vision and values of the Cook County State&rsquo;s Attorney&rsquo;s Office both with ASAs as well as law enforcement and community partners.</b></p>
<p><b>Minimum Qualifications</b>:
</p><ul><li>Must be able to manage the needs of attorneys, including caseload management, training, and supporting attorneys in pursing long-term development opportunities.</li>
<li>Must consistently observe and review the work of attorneys, both inside and outside of the courtroom, to offer productive feedback and motivate ongoing improvements.</li>

The mission of NIJC is to ensure human rights protections and access to justice for immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers. NIJC provides direct legal services to and advocates for these populations through advocacy, impact litigation and strategic communications. NIJC leverages assistance from more than 2,500 pro bono attorneys throughout the country to provide legal services to more than 10,000 immigrants annually.</p><p><b>
Job Summary:
</b></p><p>The LGBTQ Immigrant Rights Initiative offers legal services to low-income immigrants who identify as LGBTQ or who are living with HIV. Reporting to the managing attorney, the senior attorney position provides technical support to pro bono counsel assigned to complex NIJC cases including affirmative, defensive, detained, and non-detained asylum cases. The person in this position may occasionally provide direct representation to clients as appropriate.
</p><p>This position is located in Chicago, IL, but remote candidates will be considered.</p><p><b><br>
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
</b></p><ul><li>Individual accountability and work volume will be defined through annual Success Objectives.</li><li>
Reviews and provides constructive feedback on materials for pro bono attorneys, including briefs, legal memos, affidavits, work permit applications, and other filings.
</li><li>Supports pro bono teams in navigating various parts of the immigration legal system including entering appearances, filing FOIA requests, drafting legal arguments, obtaining corroborating evidence, and appearing before government agencies including the Asylum Office and the Immigration Court.
</li><li>Drafts practice advisories and explainers on various relevant legal topics.</li><li>
Advises pro bono teams on case strategy for complex immigration legal matters.
</li><li>Presents at training and outreach events on topics including updates in immigration law and representation of LGBTQ asylum seekers.</li><li>
Provides direct representation to NIJC clients as needed and/or as appropriate, including preparing cases for interview or hearing, drafting legal papers, conducting client advocacy, presenting evidence, etc. in accord with the Code of Professional Responsibility for the legal profession.</li><li>
Remains current on immigration law, policies and procedures. Remains current on implications of criminal and civil law as it applies to the representation of immigrants.</li><li>
Maintains complete and accurate client records. Prepares timely statistical reports. Conducts routine case audits for presentation and review of the Supervisor.</li><li>
Identies trends and recurring legal and social concerns. Recommends strategies for solutions and other needed advocacy.</li><li>
