Working with a range of other reporters, the candidate is expected to produce a reasonable volume of daily stories under deadline pressure. Industry knowledge of sourcing, apparel, footwear, sustainability, tech, retail or fashion is a plus. Position requires some travel and event coverage when necessary.

Requirements:

About the Role

The Weekend Breaking News Reporter will report and write quick, high-impact news items on everything from national news and politics and to pop culture and celebrity. The ideal candidate will have an ability to produce stories that stay a half-step ahead of the competition. In addition, they must have demonstrated skills to weave interviews, anecdotes, and exclusive details into compelling narratives.

The reporter must have a high news metabolism and be ready to find sources, sift through public records, break news, and write with flair. And have experience as a news reporter and the clips to show it.

Candidates must be available to work weekend shifts. There are two distinct roles: one covering a daytime schedule (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday) and another covering an evening schedule (4 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Friday and Saturday).

</div>This is a full-time, exempt role with a salary range of $94,040.13 per year (plus a full benefits package). This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between New York Public Radio and SAG-AFTRA.<div>

 The ideal candidate can report on a wide range of topics including art, food, film, fashion, and music, among others. This reporter will generate scoops and exclusives, while balancing bigger trend stories, profiles, event guides, news stories, and other features.

 Responsibilities:

 Report and produce stories for both text and audio platforms that are clear, thorough, fair, timely, culturally relevant, and accurate.
 </li>
 <li>
 Conceive of, source, and pitch stories on a variety of topics that will engage listeners and readers.
 </li>
 <li>
 Consistently meet deadlines on daily news while balancing enterprise stories.
 </li>
 <li>
 Develop sources that lead to scoops our audience can&rsquo;t get elsewhere.
 </li>
 <li>
 Effectively coordinate with other editors and the newsroom&rsquo;s audience team tomaximize reach across our platforms.
 </li>
 <li>
 Work in-person at New York Public Radio&rsquo;s office in Lower Manhattan and be available to be deployed in the field whenever necessary.
