The Registry Patient Care Technician provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). This role supports patient care by performing a variety of clinical, environmental, and clerical duties that promote safety, comfort, and healing. The Patient Care Technician works closely with patients, families, and the care team to ensure high-quality, compassionate care while maintaining hospital and unit-specific competencies.</div><div></div><div><br>
The purpose of the facility based/operating unit (OU) <b>float pool position</b> is to provide clinical resources in a variety of patient care departments throughout an Emory Healthcare (EHC) operating unit/facility. The float pool expects to work in different clinical areas of an EHC facility based on skill set, patient volume, acuity, and the patient care and operational needs of said facility/OU.</div><div></div><div><br>
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:</div><div></div><div><br>
Clinical Practice &amp; Patient Care:</div><ul><li>
Performs assigned patient care duties including hygiene, comfort, rest, mobility, and elimination support.</li><li>
Assists with patient procedures and emergencies as directed by RN/LPN.</li><li>
Records patient intake and output and documents observations accurately and in a timely manner.</li><li>
Provides support in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes.</li><li>
Assists with range of motion, ambulation, patient transfers, diet, and postmortem care.</li><li>
Observes and reports significant or unusual patient or environmental information to RN/LPN.</li><li>
Utilizes appropriate technology and equipment safely in the provision of care.</li></ul><div>
Equipment &amp; Technical Skills:</div><ul><li>
Assists in the use of clinical devices including bag-valve-mask, anti-embolism stockings, pneumatic compression stockings, oxygen, suction equipment, incentive spirometer, and emergency carts.</li><li>
Operates patient care equipment such as converter chairs, lifts, scales, beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, non-invasive blood pressure monitors, automatic thermometers, sphygmomanometers, pulse oximeters, and computers.</li><li>
Collects and transports patient specimens and ensures timely completion of applicable forms.</li><li>
Transports patients safely throughout the hospital as needed.</li></ul><div>

Set up of the hemodialysis machine.</li><li>
Greet patients and collect details regarding their previous treatment. Report any concerns or observations to the lead nurse.</li><li>

Initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatment per written policies, procedures, and standards of care.</li><li>
Obtain patient's vital signs before, during, and after dialysis treatment and appropriately document in patient medical record.</li><li>
Responsible for appropriately calculating and documenting patient's fluid removal.</li><li>
PCT performs appropriate access cannulation and reports any difficulties or unusual findings to the lead nurse.</li><li>
Monitor the patient for any adverse reaction(s) and conduct appropriate intervention.</li><li>
Monitor the dialysis machine for any malfunction. Report any malfunctions to the lead nurse.</li><li>
Demonstrates knowledge of infection control as related to hand washing, personal protective equipment (PPE), and universal precautions.</li><li>

This position provides direct patient care that regularly involves heavy lifting, moving of patients, and assisting with ambulation.</li><li>

Supports the plan of care by carrying out and recording specific nursing care procedures such as bowel program procedures, emptying catheter, measuring and recording intake and output, measuring with gain or loss, and providing emotional support and encouragement to all patients and families.</li><li>
Prepares and maintains a record of observations and care given. Documents information clearly and completely utilizing correct forms/systems in a timely manner according to Center policy.</li><li>
