Patient Care Technicians at The Johns Hopkins Hospital provide highly skilled and compassionate patient and family-centered care as a contributing member of the health care team. Ongoing education is provided to all Patient Care Technicians to ensure that all techs perform at the highest level of their certification and scope of practice. During your first year, you will have the opportunity to attend eight days of training off the unit, which provide interactive learning activities to support your personal and professional development
Qualifications:

<li>One year of clinical experience e.g., home care, outpatient, acute care (hospital preferred) technician experience during the most recent two years in a setting relevant to the unit.</li>

The Patient Care Technician is responsible for: 
Under the supervision of a nurse, and taking into consideration the developmental needs of the patient, performs routine patient activities and delegated patient care procedures of a specialized and technical nature as competency documentation designates.
<ul><li>Assist the patient with changing/dressing</li></ul>
<ul><li>Transports the patient by stretcher, bed, or wheelchair (this is a large part of the job)</li><li>Identifies abnormal findings that could adversely affect surgical and patient outcomes, including abnormal vital signs, Accucheck results, lab, EKG, and CXR results</li><li>Report all abnormal findings to the appropriate nursing staff</li><li>Escorts patients to holding rooms</li><li>Assists with patient changing, and removal of belongings such as jewelry, dentures, contact lenses, etc.</li><li>Verifies patient information</li><li>Orients patients and families to the environment</li><li>Obtains vital signs</li></ul>
