As a Site Reliability Engineer at Weedmaps you will work cross-departmentally with your partners on the application, infrastructure and quality teams to enhance the performance, reliability, resilience and scalability of the web services that make up Weedmaps.com. We are a cloud native organization with 100% of our services in Docker running on Kubernetes in AWS&rsquo; public cloud. We also leverage observability, monitoring, CI/CD automation and custom tooling to push multiple production releases a day.

Your day to day focus will be leveraging your engineering skills to assist in the building out, monitoring, reducing developer toil, configuring CI workflows and improving our deployment pipelines. You will also be a knowledge reference for our development teams to ensure they are leveraging consistent tooling for metrics, logging, build, and deployment. You will work closely with the development and infrastructure teams to identify the essential service-specific metrics (beyond the golden metrics) that need to be monitored and work with application development teams to create libraries to allow services to easily instrument their services.

What you've accomplished:

<li>Minimum 2 years of development experience at startup/mid-sized companies</li>
<li>Proficiency in Python, Go, Node, Ruby or Elixir</li>
<li>Knowledge of containerization, particularly Docker (Kubernetes is a plus)</li>
<li>Effective communication skills, a positive attitude, and ability to give and receive constructive feedback</li>
<li>Professional experience with cloud native observability standard such as Open metrics, Open tracing and Open Census</li>
<li>Expertise using/configuring modern CI/CD workflows</li>
<li>Intimate understanding of SLIs, SLOs and SLAs from the service level to the business level</li>
<li>Intimate understanding of the golden metrics, how to monitor and alert on them</li>
<li>Deep understanding of the GitHub branching strategy</li>
<li>Experience troubleshooting containerized applications</li>
<li>Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code, automation and configuration</li>

To accomplish our mission, we deploy our sensors into our customers' field operations, typically on backpacks or vehicles. The resulting trove of LiDAR and imagery data is processed through our AI models to deliver actionable analytics through our web platform. To date, our technology has enabled utilities to reduce wildfire, regulatory and outage risk from vegetation, avoid delays and cost overruns in new construction, and accelerate recovery from severe storms.

About the role<ul><li>
Help us scale and harden the platform that schedules our pipelines, runs machine learning training, and hosts our web app. We run Apache Airflow on Astronomer with DAGs that orchestrate high-volume processing across AWS and Kubernetes, including machine learning inference inside pipeline tasks. You will build the observability and reliability foundations that let us run this system confidently as customer data volume grows: monitoring, alerting, performance/cost visibility, and clear operational practices.</li><li>
Stay curious, collaborative, and cross-functional while also taking ownership of problems. We translate complex, real-world requirements from a critical industry into high-quality data products, so understanding the business holistically is key. We take pride in managing complexity and providing high-fidelity data that our customers can use to make better-informed decisions.</li><li>
You&rsquo;ll be our first full-time SRE/infrastructure engineer, so we&rsquo;ll look to you for leadership on how to improve and scale our infrastructure to support each part of the platform. Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>

Design and implement reliability and observability for high-volume pipeline operations, including:<ul><li>

On-call / incident response
There is not currently an established on-call rotation for this platform, and the pipelines do not require real-time processing. That said, you&rsquo;ll still help lead reliability improvements and operational readiness&mdash;so the team has faster diagnosis, better alerts, and safer releases when issues do occur.<h3 class="jobSectionHeader">
What we&rsquo;re looking for</h3><ul><li>
You are an experienced software engineer where the last 7-10 years required significant time on observability, systems/infrastructure engineering, SRE, or DevOps (ideally in a cloud environment).</li><li>
Ability to reason about architecture end-to-end and articulate your thoughts with product impact in mind (data movement, execution, failure handling, and operational visibility).</li><li>
Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform and similar) and using it to deliver reliable environments.</li><li>
Experience with container orchestration and debugging in practice (Kubernetes and/or ECS/container-based deployments).</li><li>
Strong Linux debugging skills and demonstrated ability to investigate production issues with logs/metrics and clear hypotheses.</li><li>
Empathy and communication: you can collaborate effectively with engineers across teams (especially the data platform team) and explain tradeoffs clearly.</li></ul><h3 class="jobSectionHeader">

Salary
The estimated salary range for this position is $160,000 - 215,000 USD. About the Role

HERE is seeking a mid-junior DevOps Engineer to join our infrastructure team! The primary responsibilities for this role will span CI/CD pipeline engineering and cloud operations, maintaining and improving our GitHub and GitLab CI/CD pipelines, and supporting our AWS cloud infrastructure.
