Department/Position Overview:
Burn Trauma is a 34-bed mixed Intermediate care and medical/surgical unit. There are 17 beds for stepdown/intermediate level of care. The patient population is neurosurgery, trauma, burns and orthopedic trauma. The intermediate care patients are received from both the Burn Trauma ICU and the Neurosurgical ICU. Also, there are 17 beds for Medical/Surgical level of care for neurosurgical, trauma, burns, orthopedic trauma, and bariatric weight loss (gastric bypass and gastric sleeves). Our nurses are trained to work both the intermediate and the medical surgical side. The nurse to patient ratio for the Intermediate Care beds are 3 to 4 and for the Medical/Surgical beds are 5 to 6. The Registered Nurse will work in a collaborative role as part of a team to maintain and support the standards of nursing care and practice, to meet the health care needs of patients, their families, and the community.

What we are:
9 Kaufman is a 24-bed stepdown intermediate care unit that specializes in vascular surgery, telemetry and renal/pancreas transplant patients. 9 Kaufman is part of the Surgical Specialty Team at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital (SNGH). Staffing is comprised of RNs, LPNs, NCPs (nursing care partners) and UAs (unit ambassadors) and CSAs (clinical support associates).
What we do:
Some of 9 Kaufman's vascular surgeries include aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries and amputations. 9 Kaufman is an extension of the renal/pancreas transplant team to include the outpatient transplant center and all the nurses on 9 Kaufman are specially trained and can sit for the PCCN certification which we will help you obtain. All the beds on 9 Kaufman are monitored beds. 9 Kaufman cares for a variety of patients with telemetry needs, providing an environment conducive to extensive learning and skill development. You will be exposed to many types of patients on 9 Kaufman aiding in your ability to provide great care to anyone that chose Sentara Norfolk General Hospital to meet their healthcare needs.

Department Overview
This 24 bed IMC Unit is designed for patients who are too ill for general medical/surgical, but do not need an intensive level of care. Patients on 4E require continuous monitoring and advanced nursing interventions including but not limited to ventilator management, tracheostomy care, telemetry monitoring, heparin infusions, BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula and post-operative cardiac and vascular patient care.

Sentara Leigh Hospital, located in Norfolk, VA, is a 274-bed acute care facility that opened in 1903 and relocated to its present site in 1977. Our hospital completed a renovation in 2016, including two new patient towers, a beautiful atrium, and a multi-story parking garage. Sentara Leigh Hospital includes a dedicated Orthopedic Hospital providing patients access to a full continuum of orthopedic care, from the preoperative phase and surgery to rehabilitation and home care services. Along with being a recognized accredited Primary Stroke Center, and Magnet hospital for nursing excellence, we also specialize in orthopedic and spine care, heart, vascular, maternity care, and general surgery. Sentara Heart Hospital located on the campus of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Cardiovascular Surgical ICU (CSICU)!
Shifts: Available Weekend Days and Weekend Nights

The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.<div>
Cardiovascular Surgical ICU Unit Description: 
<ul><li>20 Bed cardiac surgical ICU</li><li>Nurses handle 1-2 patients on this unit based on acuity level.</li><li>Nurses provide service to any patients that have undergone open heart surgeries such as CABG, Valve repair or replacement, aneurysm repair, TAVR, ablations, Heart Transplantation, and Mechanical Circulatory Support devices including the Total Artificial Heart and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), and various lung surgeries.</li><li>Nurses manage critically ill patients that require intensive hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, multiple drug infusions, IABP therapy and CRRT.</li></ul></div>
The Sentara Heart Hospital, a 112-bed care facility, is #2 for Cardiology services and Heart Surgery in the State of Virginia and ranks #24 in the nation for best heart programs.<div>
Education 
<ul><li>Associate's degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)</li><li>Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)</li></ul>
 
Certification/Licensure 
<ul><li>Virginia RN License Virginia or Compact/Multi-State Eligible.</li><li>All Direct Care RN's required to have BLS within 90 days of hire and ACLS within 1 year of hire.</li></ul></div><div>
Experience 
<ul><li>1 year of RN Experience required</li><li>1 year of Intermediate - Stepdown level of care with cardiac knowledge ideal, ED, PCU or 1+ years of Medical/Surgical experience.</li></ul></div>

This program is designed to blend practical skills with hands-on training, professional development, and mentorship, equipping you with the confidence and expertise needed to excel in your critical care nursing career.
Our Transition to Practice program features a mix of classroom teaching methodologies and a preceptor-based unit orientation. You will engage in 8 sessions that include live simulations, case studies, and problem-based learning. These sessions cover essential topics such as critical care patient assessment and documentation, respiratory and cardiac care, vasoactive medications, hemodynamics and invasive monitoring, neurological care, post-operative and procedural care, GI/renal systems, ACLS mega code, sedation, analgesia, neuromuscular blockade, and effective communication with providers and families.
