What you will do:<ul><li>
Be a trusted leader of Baker Tilly&rsquo;s tax services providing federal tax compliance and consulting services to commercial clients positively impacting your clients through:</li><li>
Being a valued tax business advisor, leading client relationships on day to day tax matters with various clients ranging from middle market to multinational</li><li>
Consulting on technical matters and special projects in various areas of corporate and flow through taxation, accounting methods, and ASC740</li><li>
Researching various tax matters, responding to IRS and other tax authority inquiries, and making recommendations to the client for consideration</li><li>
Coordinating with specialty tax practices on complicated tax matters in the state and local, high net worth, international, research and development along with credits and incentives areas</li><li>
Overseeing tax-planning responsibilities for federal and individual clients, review complex tax research on a wide range of tax issues related to business transactions for a variety of entities and their affiliates</li><li>
Providing recommendations for business and process improvements based upon knowledge gained relative to the client's operations, processes, and business objectives</li><li>
Manage client engagement staffing, billings/collections, and ensure client profitability targets are met</li><li>

Truist has an exciting opportunity for a results-driven Assistant Corporate Tax Director to play a meaningful role on our Corporate Tax Team. This role will report to the Director of Federal Tax Planning and Controversy and will focus primarily on the review, analysis, and risk assessment of complex tax credit transactions, as well as other significant federal income tax planning, advisory, and transactional matters. The successful candidate will work closely with internal business, legal, finance/accounting, risk, and external tax advisors to identify and address tax issues, mitigate tax risk, support M&amp;A and restructuring activity, and help ensure that material tax positions are appropriately analyzed, documented, communicated, and implemented.
Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Review, analyze, and advise on complex tax credit transactions (e.g., investment tax credit, new markets tax credit, low-income housing tax credit, etc.), including identifying material federal income tax issues, evaluating transaction structures, assessing technical tax positions, and recommending approaches to appropriately mitigate tax risk. 
2. Analyze tax credit investments, transferability arrangements, partnership structures, and other tax-advantaged transactions to determine whether tax issues have been appropriately addressed in transaction documents, financial models, tax opinions, accounting analyses, and related supporting materials. 
3. Research, analyze, and resolve highly complex federal income tax issues, applying a thorough understanding of relevant tax law, tax accounting principles, regulatory accounting considerations, and business objectives. 
4. Prepare, review, and communicate technical tax analyses and position documentation, including explaining conclusions and the underlying &ldquo;why&rdquo; to tax and non-tax stakeholders at various levels within the organization. 
5. Review transaction documents and related materials, identify tax issues and risk areas, recommend revisions or best practices, and coordinate with internal legal, finance/accounting, risk, business, and external advisor teams as needed. 
6. Provide tax technical support for restructuring, M&amp;A, investment, financing, and other strategic transactions from a U.S. federal income tax perspective, including evaluating alternative structures and assisting with diligence and implementation. 
7. Advise business stakeholders on the tax implications of proposed transactions, deal structures, business products, and strategic initiatives. 
8. Collaborate with business and corporate stakeholders to develop and implement tax-efficient structures for transactions, investments, products, and other initiatives. 
9. Identify and analyze tax planning opportunities and manage cross-functional project teams to effectively evaluate, document, and implement tax planning initiatives. 
10. Develop or review tax models to analyze the impact of tax strategies, changes in tax law, complex transactions, and tax credit investments on the company&rsquo;s overall tax position. 
11. Coordinate with tax compliance, tax accounting, finance/accounting, and other internal teams to help ensure that transactions and tax positions are properly reflected in tax returns, tax provision processes, regulatory reporting, and internal documentation, as applicable. 
12. Identify, assess, and effectively manage tax risks inherent in transactions, investments, and business initiatives. 
13. Support process improvements to increase the consistency, quality, and efficiency of tax technical review, transaction documentation, risk assessment, and communication with stakeholders. 
14. Mentor and coach less experienced teammates to build technical expertise, support professional development, and delegate work as appropriate.
Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor&rsquo;s degree and CPA. 
2. 10 years of professional experience including Big 4 or large corporate tax experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
3. 6 years of reviewing moderate to complex tax returns and leading teams. 
4. Specialized knowledge in bank taxation, state tax, and/or tax accounting. 
5. Advanced understanding of principles, practices, theories and/or methodologies associated with the tax discipline, including knowledge of tax return software. 
6. Strong computer skills in Excel and other Microsoft products. 
7. Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
8. Advanced analytical skills and tax research skills and the ability to solve complex technical and business problems. 
9. Strong attention to detail. 
10. Ability to exercise judgement in solving technical, operational, and organizational challenges in the context of business objectives and priorities. 
11. Ability to work independently, with guidance in only the most complex and unusual situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Significant experience analyzing complex tax credit transactions, tax equity investments, transferable credit transactions, partnership tax structures, or other tax-advantaged investment structures. 
2. Experience reviewing transaction documents, tax opinions, financial models, and supporting technical analyses for complex transactions. 
3. Experience advising on U.S. federal income tax matters related to M&amp;A, restructuring, investments, financing transactions, or strategic corporate initiatives. 
4. Strong technical knowledge of partnership taxation, tax credit rules, tax basis concepts, credit recapture rules, and transaction-related tax risk assessment. 
5. Experience working with legal, finance/accounting, business, risk, and external advisor teams on complex transactions. 
6. 12 years of Big 4, law firm, large corporate tax department, financial institution, or tax credit investment experience. 
7. Advanced degree in Taxation, Accounting, Law, or related field, including MS, JD, LLM, or equivalent advanced credential. 
8. Banking, financial services, or regulated financial institution tax experience.
