<div>Canyon seeks a full-time accountant to manage all financial record-keeping and accounting operations for the organization.<h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
Who we are</h2>
Canyon is a new media art institution opening on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in fall 2026. Spanning approximately 40,000 square feet, the venue encompasses exhibition galleries, a 120-seat performance space, an 800-person event hall, a restaurant, bar, mezzanine caf&eacute;, and theater. Canyon presents two major exhibitions per year alongside a year-round program of live events, performances, screenings, and community programming.<h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
Position Overview</h2>
The accountant/bookkeeper reports to Canyon's Chief Operating Officer. This position will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing day-to-day accounting functions, and ensuring fiscal integrity across all areas of the organization. The ideal candidate is pro-active, detail-oriented, and comfortable with standard accounting tasks in a professional environment. Initially a single-person operation, over time the position could become the lead in a growing department.
Key Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using accounting software</li><li>
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable in a timely manner</li><li>
Reconcile bank statements and credit card transactions monthly</li><li>
Track and categorize expenses across multiple budget categories and projects</li><li>
Coordinate payment requests and tracking with leadership</li><li>
Manage employee expense reimbursements</li><li>
Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports for management review</li><li>
Support management with annual budget forecasting</li><li>
Assist with annual audit preparation and coordinate with external accountants</li><li>
Manage contributions, membership, and sales accounts, reconciling with departments monthly</li><li>
Maintain organized filing systems for financial documentation</li></ul>
Required Qualifications:<ul><li>
Minimum 5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience</li><li>
Proficiency with accounting software and financial management systems</li><li>
Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial record-keeping</li><li>
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills</li></ul>
Desired skills and qualifications
<ul><li>Nonprofit or hospitality accounting experience</li><li>
Familiarity with grant financial management and reporting</li><li>
Knowledge of New York nonprofit financial requirements</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
CompensationBenefits</h2>
Salary: $90,000&ndash;$115,000, commensurate with experience.
