The Patient Care Technician (PCT) II performs patient care activities, including but not limited to identifying and responding to abnormal findings, appropriately escalating changes in the patient’s condition to the nurse, and activities of daily living (ADL’s). The PCT II provides assistance with patient elimination, hygiene, comfort, safety, nutrition, and progress activity and practices patient and family centered care. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 Education: (None)
 Licenses/Certifications: Certified in Basic Life Supportissued by (AHA) American Heart Association within 90 days of employment.
 
Experience / Knowledge / Skills: 
<ul>
<li>One (1) year of prior patient care experience (e.g. Certified Nursing Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician, or Patient Care Technician) or similar rolerequired, preferably in an acute care setting.</li>
<li>Proficiency in all Core Competencies of the PCT I and II position as noted in Memorial Hermann’s PCT Competency Based Tooland as validated by Memorial Hermann Clinical Education no later than the end of orientation.</li>

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

<li>Provides direct patient care for assigned patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.</li>
<li>Direct patient care duties include but are not limited to vital signs (pre and post treatment, as applicable), visual monitoring of a patient’s condition, hygiene support, toileting support, mobility support, nutrition support, bathing support, charting, and other activities of daily living as needed.</li>
<li>Responsible for timely and accurate documentation of information. Should appropriately report any unusual changes or findings to the nurse.</li>

Summary
 
The Department of Neurology is looking for an entry level, novice vocational nurse who possesses a basic general knowledge of nursing practice. This position will assist our Multiple Sclerosis physicians and APP in the areas of patient care including treatment room examination and procedures, schedules tests and appointments, and records and communicates information to referring physicians.
 
The Department of Neurology at Baylor College of Medicine provides personalized care for patients with neurological disease, trains medical students and residents in clinical care and research, conducts research to advance the art and science of neurology, and provides meaningful new therapies for patients.
 
This position will work closely with our Licensed Vocational Nurse III. This is an on site position located at our McNair Campus in the Medical Center.

Job Duties
 Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality and safe patient care and customer service.

 Assists physicians and registered nurses with various medical procedures.
 Administers a variety of tests and medications and takes patient's vital signs.

 Documents patient care services by charting in patient’s electronic medical record.

 Minimum Qualifications
 High School diploma or G.E.D and graduated from an approved licensed practical nurse/vocational nurse (LPN/LVN).
 No experience required.
 Current license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the State of Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
 Basic Life Support certification (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
