Patient Care Assistant (PCA)- Flex

<div>At Houston Methodist, the Patient Care Assistant (PCA) Novice position is Patient Care Technician (PCT) graduate, or an internal internship, and is an entry level position in which incumbents should document, where applicable, care administered, diagnostic measurements, treatments and procedures and demonstrate the ability to continuously progress in basic knowledge and skills necessary to communicate appropriately and carry out delegated tasks for age-specific, diverse patient population. This position receives coaching from preceptors, Registered Nurses (RN) and management and performs delegated patient care tasks under the supervision of the RN. The PCA Novice position responds to the call light system and records data established by policy and procedure, and reports observations and patient problems to the licensed nurse. This position is responsible for assigned non-nursing functions. The PCA Novice position practices Patient and Family Centered Care in concert with Houston Methodist ICARE values.

DeBakey Department of Surgery is seeking a Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner who will provide care to Hepatopancreatobiliary surgical oncology patients under the direction of a physician. This position will assist the supervising physician with evaluating and assessing patients to determine treatment plans. They will see post-operative patients.</div></div><div><div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
Job Duties</h2></div><div><ul><li>
Obtains detailed history and performs physical examinations for peri-operative care of surgical oncology patients.</li><li>
Performs or orders x-rays, electrocardiograms, laboratory tests, and other diagnostic procedures, and interprets results.</li><li>
Formulates an assessment and plan; orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic tests in coordinator with faculty supervising physician.</li><li>
Round on inpatients nearing discharge, develop care plans, and provide detailed counseling on home care and clinic follow-up.</li><li>
Perform patient discharges and attend multi-disciplinary rounds to inform all teams of patient plans.</li><li>
Evaluate and treat postoperative and/or established patients independently as delegated in the clinic.</li><li>
Instructs patients on prescribed therapeutic regimens, home care and health maintenance.</li><li>
Administers such therapeutic procedures as injections, immunizations, suturing, and wound care.</li><li>
Performs bedside wound care procedures such as suture removal, staple removal, drain removal, and dressing changes.</li><li>
