<div>PEN America, a nonprofit organization working at the intersection of literature and human rights, seeks a dynamic and results-oriented program manager of U.S. journalist safety to lead our work supporting journalists and media professionals, as well as their allies and employers, amidst an increasingly hostile environment for press freedom in the U.S. This is a full-time, union-eligible position based at PEN America&rsquo;s New York City headquarters; applicants based in Washington, D.C. will also be considered. The position reports to the Director of Digital Safety and Free Expression in the Free Expression Programs department. This position has an initial 12-month term subject to extension contingent on funding. 
 
The program manager will drive forward our work to support journalists and media professionals, as well as their allies and employers, in the face of online abuse, threats, and other intimidation tactics in the U.S. by managing and growing our journalist safety training program, including leading trainings and giving presentations; expanding our engagement with impacted audiences in the media sector; strengthening existing partnerships and forging new ones; following current developments in safety, press freedom, and digital rights; and coordinating with colleagues focused on policy and advocacy. The program manager will have opportunities for public speaking, travel, and relationship building in the media and digital rights sectors. 
 
The ideal candidate will be passionate about journalist safety and press freedom, deeply committed to making online spaces safer and more equitable, possess an understanding of intersectionality, and be attuned to safety challenges in an era of rapidly evolving technology and growing hostility to the press. The position requires: an energized, highly organized, and collaborative work style; the ability to navigate complex questions about identity, harassment, and free expression; and the drive to strengthen PEN America&rsquo;s impact in the media sector.

Role</div>
Octus, a rapidly growing tech-powered financial news and data company and leader in leveraged finance and distressed debt news and analysis, is seeking highly motivated reporters to join us in covering leveraged finance, private credit and M&amp;A activity. This is a unique opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a new coverage model while working in an exciting collaborative environment. An ideal candidate would be highly curious, self motivated and possess outstanding interpersonal skills. They should have significant prior experience covering debt capital markets and debt origination.

This position is based in our New York City office, on a hybrid schedule (3 days in office per week).

Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Help build out Octus' coverage of private debt/capital markets, including private equity, credit secondaries, fund raising and M&amp;A</li>
<li>Develop and maintain rapport with private credit shops, private equity firms, M&amp;A bankers and leverage loan investor contacts</li>
<li>Identify and report on new trends and developments in private credit, the secondary private capital markets and M&amp;A/LBOs</li>
<li>Collaborate with financial and legal analysts, and other reporters across multiple sectors</li>
</ul>
Requirements
<ul>
<li>Experience writing about debt capital markets, and specifically leveraged finance and LBOs, M&amp;A</li>
<li>Experience writing about fund raising, deal valuations, credit quality and its intersection with private equity and LP formation</li>
<li>Excellent interpersonal skills; self motivated; ability to multitask and work in a fast paced newsroom environment</li>
<li>Write clearly and concisely under deadline pressure and derive trends from issuance, pricing and other market patterns.</li>
<li>Scoop driven reporter with a stable of reliable sources in private credit, investment banking, fund and asset management industries</li>
<li>The candidate must be collaborative and enjoy working in a multicultural team environment.</li>

At Octus, we consider a range of factors in connection with compensation decisions, including experience, skills, location, and our business needs and limitations. As a result, compensation may vary within and across similar roles and positions. Please note that the salary range information below is a good faith estimate for this position and actual compensation for any individual may fall outside this range if warranted by the circumstances applicable to that individual. If we identify a role that would be suitable for a broader range of skills and experience such that we would consider hiring at multiple levels then the range listed below may reflect that breadth.

The salary range estimate for this position is $140,000 - $180,000, plus an annual discretionary bonus.

The actual compensation will be at Octus' sole discretion and will be determined by the aforementioned and other relevant factors.<div>

We are seeking a sharp, creative, and adaptable Video Journalist/Producer to join our fast-paced newsroom. In this role, you will produce visually compelling video content and write short video-led stories across breaking news, showbiz, politics, lifestyle, and international coverage.

You'll be responsible for pitching and producing engaging stories using original and sourced footage, editing content for multiple platforms, and identifying opportunities to drive traffic and engagement through smart editorial packaging and headline writing. This role requires strong video production and editorial instincts, as well as the ability to operate in a dynamic 24/7 news cycle.

About You

<li>A trained video journalist with 4+years of experience in a fast-paced digital newsroom</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to find and develop video-first news stories independently</li>
<li>Comfortable balancing quick-turnaround edits with quality, longer-form storytelling</li>
<li>Excellent editorial judgment and strong understanding of DailyMail's voice and audience</li>
<li>Confident pitching ideas and providing creative input on video packages</li>
<li>Adaptable, self-motivated, and comfortable switching priorities at short notice</li>
<li>Strong communicator and a team player who thrives in a high-pressure environment</li>
<li>Familiarity with copyright, fair use, and ethical considerations in digital video reporting</li></ul> 


Skills Needed
<ul>
<li>Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro; working knowledge of After Effects and Photoshop is a plus</li>
<li>Experience with vertical video formats and platform-specific editing techniques</li>
<li>Strong newswriting ability, particularly for video headlines and brief supporting text</li>
<li>Understanding of SEO and how it relates to video and headline performance</li>
<li>Familiarity with digital asset management systems and remote collaboration tools (e.g. Slack, CMS)</li>
