<div><p><b>The Research Assistant II will support the RECOVER clinical trial, a multi-center study evaluating Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) Therapy for individuals with treatment-resistant depression (TRD), conducted at the Center for Interventional Psychiatry (CIP) at the UCT Clinic. This position plays a critical role in participant identification, eligibility determination, study coordination, and long-term follow-up of participants enrolled in VNS research.</b></p><p><b>
The position requires extensive review and interpretation of psychiatric and medical records to determine study eligibility, including assessment of prior antidepressant medication trials, psychotherapy history, psychiatric hospitalizations, neuromodulation treatments, medical comorbidities, and other factors relevant to treatment-resistant depression. The Research Assistant II must be able to synthesize complex clinical information and communicate findings effectively to investigators and clinical staff.</b></p><p><b>
Responsibilities include participant recruitment, informed consent, clinical and research assessments, regulatory documentation, data collection, and coordination of study procedures across screening, implantation, and longitudinal follow-up phases. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong knowledge of psychiatric disorders, including treatment-resistant depression, as well as psychopharmacology, psychotherapy interventions, and common medical comorbidities. Experience conducting comprehensive medical record reviews and synthesizing complex psychiatric and medical histories is essential, along with the ability to evaluate prior medication trials, psychotherapy treatments, psychiatric hospitalizations, and neuromodulation interventions to support study eligibility determinations. Candidates should have a solid understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), human subjects protection, and research ethics, and experience coordinating clinical research studies and interacting with study participants. Under general direction, conducts basic/ translational research, which may include animal work and other research activities. We are seeking qualified candidates for the role of Medical Assistant at varying levels (I, II, III). The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level based on qualifications and experience. All levels contribute to patient care under the supervision of licensed medical professionals, with increasing responsibilities at higher levels.</p><p></p><p><b><br>
Primary Responsibilities:</b></p><ul><li>
Medical Assistant I:<ul><li>
Provide supportive patient care functions under supervision</li><li>
Ensure patient safety and comfort in accordance with legal and professional standards</li><li>
Perform delegated tasks as directed by a physician or RN</li></ul></li><li>
Medical Assistant II:<ul><li>
Includes all duties of MA I</li><li>
Administer injectables and perform advanced clinical tasks</li><li>
Requires additional experience and/or certification</li></ul></li><li>
Medical Assistant III:<ul><li>
Includes all duties of MA I and II</li><li>
Perform high-level clinical procedures</li><li>
Serve as a resource for less experienced staff</li></ul></li></ul><p></p><p><br>

Required Qualifications:</b></p><ul><li>
High School Diploma or GED</li><li>
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program</li><li>
BLS certification through the American Heart Association</li><li>
No experience required with a certification/registration as a Medical Assistant OR 1 year of directly related Medical Assistant experience without certification/registration</li><li>
Basic medical/nursing terminology</li><li>
Computer proficiency</li></ul><p></p><p><b><br>
Preferred Qualifications:</b></p><ul><li>
For MA II:<ul><li>
Certification/Registration as a Medical Assistant</li><li>
5+ years of directly related experience</li></ul></li><li>
For MA III:<ul><li>
Certification/Registration as a Medical Assistant</li><li>
8+ years of directly related experience</li><li>
Experience in Ambulatory Care</li><li>
EPIC and Windows-based computer systems experience</li></ul></li></ul><p></p><p><br>
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
