The Department of Pathology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is recruiting a full-time academic clinical chemist/clinical chemistry laboratory director. Recent fellowship graduates and mid-career/senior physicians are strongly encouraged to apply. The candidate will be appointed to the full-time faculty of Harvard Medical School at the appropriate academic rank (Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor), commensurate with experience.
The successful candidate will share responsibility for clinical, academic, and administrative leadership of a comprehensive, high‑complexity clinical chemistry service, with an additional significant leadership role in Point of Care Testing (POCT).
Experience in clinical chemistry immunoassays, automated chemistry, and the broad applications of point of care instrumentation is necessary. The successful candidate will contribute to the management of a comprehensive and rapidly growing state-of-the-art laboratory that supports active clinical programs in solid organ and bone marrow transplantation, oncology, cardiology and cardiovascular surgery, immunology, endocrinology, obstetrics and neonatology, and therapeutic drug monitoring and toxicology.

 Key Responsibilities

 Administer respiratory care and assisted ventilation to infants and children with acute and chronic disease states in all areas of the hospital, following prescribed treatment.

 Apply and monitor mechanical ventilation.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provide respiratory therapy in critical care, inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provide patient care in assigned clinical area and complete associated duties.
 </li>
 <li>
 Communicate with care team, patients and their family members, and co-workers.
 </li>
 <li>
 Participate in professional development and opportunities for advancement within departmental career ladder, including ECMO specialist positions.

 Qualifications
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Associate of Science Degree in Respiratory Therapy required; graduates of a BS Degree Respiratory Therapy program preferred.
 </li>
 <li>
 One or more years of recent Respiratory Therapist experience in a Tertiary Hospital preferred; recent graduates of an AS or BS Degree Respiratory Therapy program are also encouraged to apply.
 </li>
 <li>
 Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Licensed by the State of Massachusetts.
 </li>
 <li>
 NICU and PICU experience preferred. NPS, PALS, NRP, and ACLS preferred.
