Job Overview:
This role is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and optimization of Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma

 The Neuropathology Brain Bank &amp; Research CoRE is an Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Dean&rsquo;s Center of Research Excellence. We focus on the brain donation process and research support of neurodegenerative diseases such as dementias, movement disorders, and traumatic brain injury. This includes speaking to potential donors and gathering clinical history, processing the brain tissue in multiple states, performing and analyzing histology, autopsy report writing, and molecular/genetic analysis. Additionally, we distribute human brain tissue and perform histology services for outside researchers.

Position Summary

This position entails coordinating flow of subject recruitment and scheduling; performing phone screens for tentative determinations of study eligibility; supporting the PI in completing and maintaining regulatory tasks and paperwork; assisting with IRB-related tasks including amendments/exceptions; drafting and/or editing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); performing phlebotomy and handling blood samples (training will be provided).

Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Coordinate participant recruitment activities and assist in managing the flow of potential research participants throughout the study process.</li>
<li>Conduct phone screenings with prospective participants to evaluate preliminary eligibility criteria and document relevant information for review by the research team.</li>
<li>Schedule and coordinate study visits, ensuring that participants receive appropriate instructions and that appointments align with study protocol requirements.</li>
<li>Support the Principal Investigator in the preparation, completion, and maintenance of regulatory documentation required for research studies, ensuring records remain accurate, organized, and compliant with institutional guidelines.</li>
<li>Assist with the preparation and submission of Institutional Review Board (IRB) materials, including amendments, modifications, and exception requests, as well as maintaining documentation related to IRB approvals.</li>
<li>Draft, review, and revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support the consistent implementation of research processes and ensure adherence to established protocols.</li>
<li>Perform phlebotomy and assist with the collection, labeling, processing, and handling of blood samples in accordance with study protocols and laboratory safety procedures.</li>
<li>Maintain accurate study documentation, including participant records and research logs, to support compliance with regulatory and institutional requirements.</li>
<li>Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and research staff to support the overall coordination and successful implementation of study activities.</li>
<li>Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.</li>

The Associate Scientist is experienced in the conduct of research involving the understanding of human diseases and improvement of human health. May assist in the operation of the clinical laboratory. Engages in clinical investigation or other research, production, technical writing, and related activities, and may mentor less senior scientist and Associate Researcher staff.

Communicates research results to the scientific community via published papers.</li><li>
Develops new proposals for research and obtain support for new and/ or continuing research activities.</li><li>
Makes recommendations that have a major impact on extensive scientific research activities.</li><li>

The salary range for the role is $58661 - $98978.78 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need.
