Under the direction of the General Counsel and Director of Government Affairs (GC DGA), the primary job duty of the Paralegal is to provide support to the Legal Division, and as requested, to forensic sections and business departments, in furtherance of their compliance with legal obligations. Primary support will be in assisting HFSC attorneys and the Public Information and Records Management Officer in complex administrative tasks related to legal research, writing, review, analysis, and compliance. Specific duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:</p><div><b>
Legal Division Support</b>&bull; As directed by the GC DGA, assist legal department with tasks in support of legal projects and duties, including but not limited to, contract review and drafting, legal research, editing and drafting legal documents and presentations.<br>
<ul><li>Utilizes a variety of sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, and legal articles to research and analyze legal topics.</li><li>Drafts and edits legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, memorandums, presentations and motions.</li><li>Assists attorneys with depositions, witness interviews, discovery, and investigations in preparation for court appearances and administrative hearings.</li><li>Serve as contracts administrator for the Contracts Lifecycle Management System (CLMS), screening requests, managing user accounts, tracking review turnaround times through monthly and annual reports, responding to, and fixing system errors or referring errors to designated technical support resources. Experience and Skills:</b><b>MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS</b>Bachelor's degree in a related field is required. Paralegal certification is required, or ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire from approved certification program. Failure to obtain certification will result in demotion, reassignment, or termination if no position exists for which the individual is qualified.<br>

This position supports the interprofessional team in delivering high quality patient care during transit. <b>SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</b><ul><li>
Communicates to nursing department to notify staff of patient transport which includes reviewing patient passport for completeness and understanding for clarification of handoff, checks patient identification using two-step verification, prepares patient for transport identifying IV bags, Foley catheters, or infusion pumps, etc., needing special handling.
</li><li>Maintains adequate supply of transport equipment in lobbies and equipment rooms, as appropriate. Clears equipment left on floors, in hallways and unauthorized areas by moving them to designated equipment storage areas or reporting the equipment to the dispatcher, as appropriate.
</li><li>Properly disposes of soiled linen on department and/or nursing unit and removes other items left on equipment such as urinals, bedpans, emesis basins, etc. Removes some equipment no longer needed for the patient care from the transport equipment and places it in the soiled utility room, as appropriate.
</li><li>Contributes towards improving department scores for patient satisfaction/experience on unit-based scorecard through peer-to-peer accountability and providing timely transports.

<b>QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</b><ul><li>
Reports observations, conditions and problems of patients to licensed personnel to achieve desired patient outcomes. Provides for the privacy of patients and families, keeping the safety of the patient in mind.
</li><li>Disinfects equipment before and after each use, allowing sufficient time for the disinfectant to dry thoroughly.
</li><li>Transports and stores oxygen tanks in approved holders. In collaboration with clinical staff as appropriate, ensures that oxygen cylinders selected are appropriate for use to reflect the current airflow status. Completes patient handoff when returning to department.
</li><li>Operates all transport equipment in a safe manner. Tags equipment needing extensive repairs, takes damaged equipment out of service and delivers appropriately for repair.
</li><li>Reports any potential harm or conflicting information to management for input in Patient Safety Net (PSN). Supports initiatives to prevent conditions such as pressure injuries, patient falls, and hospital-acquired infections. Contributes towards improving quality and safety scores on the unit-based scorecard, through peer-to-peer accountability.
