This position analyzes and assesses criminal information of a confidential nature and develops comprehensive analytical reports based on available data. Focuses primarily on strategic, administrative, and research-oriented analytical projects. The employee is required to develop threat assessments, time series analyses regarding crime patterns, and to identify criminal groups, key individuals involved in organized criminal activity, their methods of operation, and the extent of the individual?s criminal influence on its organized criminal group. Researches, compiles, and disseminates to major case investigation officers and prosecutors, intelligence booklets containing all data on file on the subject in question for criminal activity? develop reports, threat assessments, bulletins, and other work products to enhance the flow of relevant trends of criminal activity? prepares a summary report and answers questions pertaining to the intelligence information to the law enforcement investigator or prosecutor.

8. Monitors Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), to stay abreast of any developing situations, including crimes, officer safety issues, severe weather conditions, etc; determines how the information should be disseminated to the approved audience and takes appropriate action.

9. Develops reports, threat assessments, bulletins and other work products in a timely manner to enhance the flow of relevant trends of criminal activity; determines which individuals or groups need the information based on the level of intelligence contained in the product; and then disseminates to the appropriate audience.

<b>POSITION SUMMARY:</b><br>

Under the direction of the CODIS Administrator, the Assistant CODIS Administrator is responsible for the input and retrieval of data entered into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) utilized by the Forensic Biology Division of Houston Forensic Science Center (HFSC). CODIS is a national FBI system used to search DNA profiles obtained from crime scene evidence against DNA profiles from other crime scenes and from convicted offenders and arrestees. CODIS can generate investigative leads in cases when a match is obtained. The Assistant CODIS Administrator is responsible for operating the DNA profile database for exchange of sensitive and confidential criminal-related genetic information among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. The Assistant CODIS Administrator is accountable for utilizing the system appropriately to ensure accurate and timely results are released to the requesting investigator.<br>
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:<br>
<ul><li>
Operate the CODIS database in accordance with state and/or federal law and State DNA Index System (SDIS) and National DNA Index System (NDIS) operational procedures.</li><li>
Ensure appropriate entry of information within the database.</li><li>
Retrieve data and makes appropriate notifications in a timely manner.</li><li>
Review and make best efforts to disposition matches in accordance with CODIS Handbook, NDIS Operational Procedures, and CODIS SOP.</li><li>
Upload profiles to SDIS and NDIS, schedules uploads from local laboratories, and reviews CODIS generated reports.</li><li>
Back up CODIS data, including performance of periodic restores, to ensure backups are working properly.</li><li>
Compile and prepares monthly reporting of Investigations Aided and Hit Statistics to SDIS and/or NDIS.</li><li>
Serve as a resource to other staff members for CODIS operations and information.</li><li>
Serve as the gatekeeper for DNA records entered into CODIS.</li><li>
Notify the CODIS Administrator, within two business days of any information which may impact HFSC's continued use of the CODIS database.
 </li><li>May assist in the completion of the Annual Audit certification.</li><li>
May attend the annual CODIS Conference.</li><li>
Utilize tools for the tracking of calls, emails, and other client communication channels.</li><li>

Experience and Skills:</b><b>MINIMUM ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:</b><br>
The casework Assistant CODIS Administrator shall meet the educational requirements for a Forensic Analyst in DNA. The Forensic Analyst in DNA must meet the educational requirements stated in the Quality Assurance System (QAS):<br>

Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, genetics, forensic sciences, or a closely related science field from an accredited college/university (transcripts required).</li><li>
Subjects providing a basic understanding of forensic DNA analysis, as well as courses or training in statistics and population genetics as they apply to forensic DNA analysis.</li></ul><b>
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:</b><br>
A casework Assistant CODIS Administrator shall be a current or previously qualified analyst.<br>

A minimum of 2 year experience in as a qualified Forensic DNA Analyst.</li><li>
Experience with CODIS Admin tasks is preferred.</li><li>
Documented mixture interpretation training.</li><li>
