Job Summary: </b>Performs both administrative and clinical functions to support smooth and efficient practice operations, while contributing to BIDMC's promise of providing extraordinary care. Performs initial review of medication lists in the electronic medical record for final review by licensed practitioners. May retrieve schedule VI and over the counter medications only, under supervision of licensed providers; is not authorized to perform licensed personnel duties, which include but are not limited to drawing up medications, medication administration or flushing IVs.</p>

Performs appropriate point of care testing, such as lab tests and specimen collection. Implements quality control standards to ensure proper functioning and accuracy of testing equipment. Provides patients with relevant instructions for specific tests and procedures.</p>
<p>
Uses the electronic medical record system (OMR) to queue prescription renewals for review by a licensed provider. As directed by a clinician, enters/scribes orders for tests, services or appointments in OMR. During the visit, accurately documents tasks, as they are completed, in OMR to ensure proper billing (Facility Worksheet).</p>
<p>
Schedules related diagnostic and lab tests making every reasonable effort to accommodate patient and provider needs. Verifies patient insurance, including prior authorizations, referrals, and pre-certifications. Explains processes as needed to help patients meet their needs and insurance requirements.</p>
<p>
Prepares schedules, patient charts and other documents as needed for clinical activities, in accordance with Medical Center standards. Procures and correlates medical correspondence as directed by department.</p>
<p>
Performs check-in utilizing a computer system, according to standard processes. This includes but is not limited to registration and verification of demographic and fiscal information, collecting copayments, collecting/verifying health care proxy and providing patients with visit questionnaires s.</p>
<p>
Use computer system to record whether appointment was cancelled or patient did not keep the appointment (visit disposition).</p>
<p>
Monitors patients and visitors entering, waiting, and leaving the practice. Facilitates timely flow and informs patients and providers of delays in a timely manner. Acts as liaison between patient and practice staff to ensure optimal flow and service delivery. Ensures waiting room materials are organized and stocked as directed by the department. May answer and screen telephone calls.</p>

<p>The Perinatal Surgical Technologist 2 reports to a Nurse Director, but also takes direction from the Labor and Delivery Clinical Advisor and Registered Nurses. Responsible for providing support to surgical team members by performing direct and indirect tasks, which contribute to quality care for patients undergoing surgical procedures. Additionally, collaborates with the nursing team to provide care for all patients on the unit. The Perinatal Surgical Technologist 2 functions as an integral member of the unit-based care delivery team by performing a variety of technical components essential to the ongoing delivery of quality patient care. Responsible for checking hospital email during work hours to stay apprised of pertinent clinical information such as practice alerts.</p>

Essential Responsibilities:
</b></p><p></p><p>Creates and maintains a sterile field. Monitors sterile technique (Surgical Conscience) in all areas of practice. Utilizes equipment, instruments, and supplies for more complex procedures in the services.</p>
<p>
Anticipates needs of surgical team and is able to assist surgeon in holding retractors, sponging and suctioning of operative site, as well as cutting sutures and draping of surgical patient.</p>
<p>
Accountable for supplies, equipment and environmental support in a cost-effective manner. Drapes all equipment in a sterile fashion. Identifies specimens for processing by circulating nurse. Assists surgical team with the counting of instruments, sharps, and sponges. Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization. Removes soiled instruments and equipment.</p>
<p>
Safeguards the privacy of patients. Maintains confidentiality relating to patients. Aware of patient's rights as well as legal, moral, and ethical implications of actions.</p>
<p>
Maintains stock in operating room supply carts and specialty cart(s) in resource area in coordination with Clinical Resource Nurse. Recognizes, reports problems related to kits or equipment and assists in developing corrective action plan. Contributes to cleanliness and order of the unit. Assists in returning kits and supplies to proper areas within the unit.</p>

<p><b>Required Qualifications:</b></p>
<p>
High School diploma or GED required.</p>
<p>
Certificate 1 Cert Surg Tech (CST) required., and Certificate 2 Basic Life Support required.</p>
<p>
1-3 years related work experience required.</p>
<p>
Graduate of an accredited education program for surgical technologists or has completed a training program for surgical technologists in the United States Military or Public Health Service.</p>
<p>
Holds and maintains a certified surgical technologist credential administered by a nationally recognized surgical technologist credentialing body accredited by the National commission of Certifying Agencies and recognized by the American College of Surgeons and the Association of Surgical Technologists.</p>
<p>
Maintains annual mandatory education requirements, which include emergency skills and unit based competencies. Identifies needs for continued growth and development in conjunction with the unit based educator or clinical nurse specialist.</p>
<p>
Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.</p>
<p><b>
Preferred Qualifications:</b></p>
<p>
Patient care experience preferred through any of the following areas: CNA, MA, EMT, PCT certificate or currently enrolled nursing student, who has completed at least one clinical rotation. Completion of BIDMC in-house training program. Allied Health and Physician Assistant program candidates. Home Health Aide.</p>
